If had an intruder come into my home and IF I had a gun I'd blow em from here to kingdom come

very mad I would not have to think twice about that. Scumbags that beat up old people deservre to be shot. ( best I don't own a gun) cause can be charged for murder for protecting yourself.

Dammed if you do dammed if you don't.

How do I feel about guns well mixed feelings like America every man and his dog carries a gun now that is down right scary. I wouldn't want to see Australia get like that so what do we do...... except get security alarm system through your home and a dog and crim safe windows and doors the cross your fingers & hope you are safe enough how sad is that but becoming reality.

dunno confused Yes folks we the good people of Australia australia are locking ourselves away almost like jail gone are the days of leaving your doors open how sad is that sad flower sigh The Aussie dream of owning your own home jail pad more like it.uh oh stuck hole sad

Just give them pepper spray, or a dye spray which will not come off the victum.
If someone brakes into a house and is caught by the police, cut off their finger or hand that WILL stop them

Yeah, it's something we have to consider for sure. I live in an appartment, not everyone's cup of tea though. It's not fool proof, as the doors open to anyone during working hours so the delivery guys can get in. After hours you have to have a swipe card to get into the building. Also living a few stories up gives a fairly good feeling of security, at least at night.

Yes . . . and no.
If you look up the Queensland Criminal Code, you will find that the use of lethal force in self defence can be justified if the assailant is armed and/or 'in company'.
They magic words when you are interviewed by police are 'I feared for my life' and 'I want a lawyer' and 'I have nothing more to say'.
As a serious student of a martial art, I do not need a gun.

People on farms, protecting their assets, very hard to say what is the best for them under their circumstances. Better to find out first, more about their experiences and why they are taking the measures they do.

Better to die yourself than kill others, though person has a right to defend themselves, whatever you do you create karma, and what goes around comes around.
Building imprints on your mind stream to course harm to other sentient beings in my opinion, is plain stupidity, ignorant thoughts such as harming others is a long country mile worse than doing nothing. In my opinion a better use of everyone's time is as much as possible develop loving kindnesstongue

You know Rob you are so right.... us humans are a violent breed, in all living beings we would be by far the most bloodthirsty of them all.
Killing for pleasure to me is despicable,I truly believe that if some Aliens arrived on our planet and did a report on how we existed and lived our lives it would not make for good reading because any beings in this huge Universe would have to pretty evil to top the Human Being.

The sad truth is percentage wise Bad outweighs Good on Earth. blues

yeah it is sadly like you say, but we all have the same amount of ability to direct our minds to developing more positive thoughts than causing harm towards other. We should remember what goes around comes around, that energy cannot just vanish into thin air, with the actions of our body speech and mind we are creating tomorrows. Cause and effect is certain...if we wish for happiness then more and more we need to develop loving kindness

You could always scare the sparrows off by tying yourself to a post, wearing a straw hat and the rifle stuck up your a@^*, instead of shooting them. hmmm

Rob, try as I may, I have had absolutely no success in making sense of what you have written here, or the last couple of your posts for that matter... confused

The only positive thought I know I will have if confronted with an intruder is to keep myself safe. I sure as heck am not going to be thinking of whether any action to protect myself, which might mean harm to the intruder, will fall into the karma moat!!!!rolling on the floor laughing

But we're all different, so go ahead and invite your intruders in for a cuppa!peace

I understand there are lots of disused mine shafts in the Yarra Valley where you live, Pebbs...remnants from the gold rush days.

No lady of yours ever dare wrong you!!!...rolling on the floor laughing

(you're not widowed are you???uh oh)

As the years have passed I've become more and more security conscious.

Even just in small ways, such as being aware of my surroundings when I'm out walking alone and walking with purpose rather than just dawdling along.

If I leave somewhere at night I lock myself in my car straight away before starting the motor etc.

I really think that the days of leaving doors unlocked when a woman particularly is alone in the house has long gone. It's opportunity that these people thrive on and at the very least, if you're out in your backyard and your front door is unlocked they'll knock your place over without you even knowing they are there.

And hopefully that will be all they do - I won't take the chance because I never want to find out.

I think part of what you say is because we are older now so we are more cautious then when we were younger but people are getting mugged and robbed heaps more now I think because the population has grown so much.

I know when I was a kid in the bush no one locked their house or cars up , gone are those days I think. I must ask my brother as he still lives in the small counrty town where I come from has it changed much.

also think all little kids should play with guns,..good medicine

Why not just teach our kids respect!
I am getting sick of hearing about old people being attacked in their homes! By worthless scumbags!
I say post the photos of the criminals online and at every shop an we will see how their life’s now become, they should make it a permanent record on their file and drivers licence that this person is an old people basher!
Getting your head kicked in for the rest of your life may just wake some off these idiots up?

Name and shame is the only way for this type of crime! What heroes are they now when one day they may and will become the victims of the example off crime they themselves have started!

Not that they will ever have a home other than a prison cell for life? professor

I was watching just before xmas a segment on the news about dangerous toys and one of them believe it or not was a cap gun. You know the type we use to play cowboys and Indians with as kids. This is what I found interesting; the media was appalled that such toys still exist today and all they do is promote violence… bloody hell are these people serious? doh
