We don't do it here because what they seem to be doing is taking donations from Australians and/or wealthy locals, transforming some of the items into stuff the locals can use, using cheap labour, then selling them "to the expat community" or giving them away for nix. can't work here.

ITs funny , because st vinnies , lifeline etc , are multi million dollar businesses ( in the bank millions , not stock and handout millions ) , they take donations , sell them in their shops , have free labour donated ( shop assistants ) , and funnily enough , they do help people , but the donations they receive far outweigh the "generosity" they give to poverty stricken Australians.

Some of you may disagree with me , but i happen to know someone who worked high in the ranks and told me of this.

Those places are getting pricey too, and I bet the staff grab the good stuff before it hits the shelves confused

without doubt… it only takes one to speak out and the whole place gets a good shake over. just give it time.

I went into an op shaop last week, a local one run for a local charity.
Clothes were $1 a piece, all good quality, clean, and I spent a whole $6 and came out happy.

like all things if you "shop" around you can find gems. And yes I tend to enjoy the smaller local charity shops miore than St Vinnies etc

I can't get over how they want to charge nearly as much as chain stores for second-hand clothing confused

You can buy Tshirts etc at Kmart for $6 and somehow Vinnies think they can charge that and more roll eyes

Their books start at $5 or $6 .. they're out of date and smell horrible too laugh

Yes they do, lve worked in the Op shop here and yes the volunteers or the people who run it have been known to keep the good stuff for themselves.

It interests me how people walk out of there with bags full of stuff.. what the hell do they find to buylaugh

Occasionally I'll find something but it'll be only a couple of bucks and they don't eftpos under $20 so I put it back and leave empty-handed once again laugh
