For the record I have no issue with gun ownership but I can't think of anybody outside of the military or law enforcement that needs a full automatic assault rifle.

OMG.... so you're saying only police have balls.
One of the biggest reasons people want guns for self defense (here) is because the police are not going to be there to protect you when you need them. Not being critical of them, just a factbtw: my favorite conceal carry is my little friend a lightweight 2.5 S&W 44 magnum. My backup is a little lightweight Dan Brown 4.5 barrel 45 semi.
Yep, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6 any day.

i actually witnessed a shoot em up a few years ago in vancouver. could see it from my apt window. and there were bodies under tarps when it was all done. yet not a single word of it in any local medias. i think this is happening way more than folks wanna admit. seems more cash goes into keeping the facade polished, than into social services which may help.

I'm not up on the latest drugs. Ooby posted this link and it seems there are illegal drugs that are referred to as bath salts so you may have a point. However, also according to the link, there is no test to find out if the person was taking it. The only way to know is for them to tell you. The side effects of the drug make me think he wouldn't have been able to do all the planning that he did.

Agree, some buy guns to go hunting, protect their family or even protect themselves when in a dangerous surrounding.
Those people do not buy a gun that can repeat 100 rounds like this guy did. I'm not in favor of any gun except for the military or law enforcement BUT the Second Amendment says people have a right to bear arms.
Our forefathers meant for guns to be used against indians and cowboy rustlers. The amendment wasn't written for mass murder in a movie theatre.

The story about Jessica has gotten a lot of attention. I didn't read your link because I knew who you were referring to but from what they are saying on the news is she wrote on her blog after the Toronto shooting saying how blessed she feels to be alive and that "she never wants to go through that again". The murderer in this shooting at first hit her in the arm/leg. When she screamed "I've been shot" he saw her and shot her in the head.
