chancer_mcgancer: might watch it if its on the box...

honestly cant remember as many goals early on in that league game... might be a record

I think it was a record. 7 goals in 35 mins. Fergie said after the game if we defend like that he will start playing himself at centre half.laugh

It is on the Box tonight. ESPN I think.

sofarsogood74: Yes. Plenty of goals in the league game. The defending was poor to say the least. He will put out the second string but they are good enough to beat Reading I reckon.Bit its the FA Cup so you never know.

FA and League(or whatever stupid sponsor name this year) cups are just not the same competitions they used to be..some of the attendances for FA cup games have been woeful...too many so called major upsets every year due to understrength sides being fielded..
So when crystal palace beat man utd at old trafford, can the palace supporter be as extatic as he might have been in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
Ive even forgotten was it FA or League cup that Palace beat united in. If u don't go on to win these competitions, it's would be better to get knocked out in the first game.

Don't remember Palace beating Man U in a cup final ever if I am honest? Are you mixing up the 3-3 draw in the final of the early 90's? A young Ian Wright scored for Palace. United went on to win the reply 1-0. dunno

sofarsogood74: Frightened of a mid table side. Dream on.

And IF my Ma had balls she would be my Da. IF Liverpool had United side they would be top of the league. I would hate to have to hold on to IF's like that. And how do you figure all those European cups? It was you thugs got the Englisg teams banned from Europe so the English league fell behind Euro teams for years. It took until the late 90's for them to catch back up.

Whats it we sing...."We won 3 and you won 5 but when we won ours nobody died!"

You hang on to your IF's and BUT's. I take the trophies thanks. Muppet.

Football violence was rife in the 70s & 80s, no one should die going to watch a football match, do you know the full facts surrounding the Heysel disaster? You are scraping the bottom of the barrel with the comment singing about people dying, it is a thread you created so I guess that means you think it is appropriate, so go ahead but that does not change the fact that the most successful British club in Europe is from Merseyside.

Singing about people dying is disgraceful no matter which side it comes from...that's not football and i really don't know why you lowered the tone by bringing it up...

How do you judge a golfer? On major wins. Same applies to football. The 3 majors in UK football is the league, FA Cup and European Cup.

Liverpool, 18 leagues, 7 FA Cups, 5 European Cups. (30)
Man Utd, 19 leagues, 11 FA Cups, 3 European Cups. (33)

This is also going to extend, it is fair to say United are a more successful club.

Is an F.A. Cup a major?? didn't yous pull out of it to play in a World Club Cup or something?? anyway trophies are trophies regardless of when they were won and how important they are to some people...

The way the trophy count is at the moment it's all level but that'll soon change come the end of the season...

For UK clubs, yes it would be a major.
Ferguson already stated he was wrong to do that, that it was disrespectful toward the FA Cup. The trophy's do matter, if United won 5 Carling Cup's and Liverpool won 4 European Cup's, does that mean United would be more successful cos they won more?
Feb 19, 2013 9:26 AM CST Everything Premier League related
robpacciani: Yes. The argument is what team is more successful. As you say, there will be no arguments at the end of this season.

You mean club...who is the most successful club in English football, answer is Liverpool and Manchester United with 60 trophies....soon to be 61 for Manchester United

United are leagues ahead at the moment, but we've got a young squad and can only get better, a young manager too. United fans will deny it, say everything will be grand, but they fear Fergie's retirement, and for good reason, he's the most succesful manager in club football ever. FACT. They'll probably dominate next season as well, but after that i'm not so sure. I'm not sure i can see Fergie continuing on after next season's over. I fancy them to go through against Madrid mind you, Real are notoriously shaky away from home and United's home form is as good as any's. Arsenal on the other hand are up against it against Bayern, i can only see Bayern going through. Wilshere is the only Arsenal player with any real balls, and he can't see them through on his own.

Fergie is unreplaceable. Nobody is arguing with that. But I am not worried about slipping as far down as Liverpool when he retires. We have a better structure than Liverpool and just like you dont see Barca, Madrid, Milan, Bayern ever slip tha far you wont see United.

We may have a season or two were we cone 3rd or 4th but we will always be there or there about because we have the money, name, stadium and fan base. Thats the hot and cold of it. At the moment Liverpool dont have the money or Stadium and until they get them sorted they wont have the quality of player.

the stadium will come. maybe not for a good few years yet but it will come. we still have a massive fan base and there still is money there, though not as much as i like. we'll need Champions League football, no doubt, but i believe that'll come, just have to be patient. we have a pretty strong squad of players, and one or two decent additions in the summer, one to replace Carra for sure, and i can see us progressing. that's what it's about really. considering the mess that Rodgers inherited in the summer and the new style of play etc., i'm happy enough with what i've seen this season. it was always going to take time, but we've put it up to all the top teams, and that's promising, especially when you consider the amount of youngsters in our ranks. these experiences will stand them in good stead for the future. as long as the owners stand by our manager, i'm confident enough that we'll progress over the coming years

I cant see someone with a huge lump to spend buying a club that will cost as much as Liverpool. The reasons the Arabs bought City and the Russian bought Chelsea is they got the club for next to nothing and then they knew they could buy a winning team.

If someone buys Liverpool they have to pay for a big enough club and then buy a team on top of that. I have no doubt a buyer will be found but not the sort that bought Chelsea and City. dunno

I have no doubt you will progress and Rogers is a decent manager. But while you progress so will the top clubs in Europe.dunno And I have been hearing about a new Liverpool stadium for 10 years now. I cant see it happening in the next 10 either. By the time it comes the other big boys may be just too far ahead.

Competing in Europe is really important to attracting the best players in the world. As you know its a vicious circle. You need top players. To attract top players you need to be successful and have money. To be successful you need to win competitions. And to win competitions you need top players.

That's not the sort of buyer i was talking about...i wasn't actually talking about a buyer at all...i'm a bit annoyed that FSG are throwing the towel in, i really thought the club were starting to move forward...

I read a while ago that Henry was having a few problems with money as far as FSG is concerned. Maybe that's the reason.
