montemonte: What am I Tom, chopped liver? You want me to drown or be carried away by high winds? Should I freeze my bum off when the power goes out and I don't have any heat?

Without your concern I just might give up

A major oversight on my part....stay safe. Keep the knee up and watch the downed power lines. Dancin in the dark is always fun.....

Maybe there is a little strength and encouragement here for you on the East Coast. The Old Guard standing in Sandy and guard the thomb of unknown soldier.

You guys have got power and lights crews headed your way from as far away as Florida and Indiana. I suspect most of the SE state as far as Lousiana has crews headed your way.

So hang in there. Help is coming.

Mscott101: This Meteorologist Mike Scott and I live in Durham, NC. Most of the state here was spared. We are experiencing some misting along with low ceilings but should expect showers to increase in the next 12-24 hrs. The problem for the NE is not that the storm is particularly strong but it has a lot of moisture and that translates into periods of heavy downpours. Soon
after landfall this system will be downgraded to a Trop Storm.

That said weather will continue to deteriorate with TS force winds, heavy rain and local flooding. This may be the worst consequence of the storm and will produce massive power outages along it's track.

Currrent central pressure as of 11pm eastern time was 950mb. Wnds 65-75 mph.. I will update as I can.

I have been a meteorologist since 1981 and have done tropical storm forecasts for US1 radio in EYW (Key West) and other tropical locations.

I meant in the area of NC in its' north to south movement - latitude, but yes it was still offshore at that point. It is a cyclone before landfall - now labled a post tropical cyclone - in places winds gusts to 100 mph - it just came ashore in NJ. The wind and the flood potential are the biggest concerns - plus the potential with a cold front from the midwest.

the worst of the storm is supposed to be in NJ and Pa. north to Mass. My sister lives on the beach on southern Maine so I am concerned

here in central ohio, it's windy and rainy and the temps are falling - supposed to light dussting of snow overnight...the storm is not expected to get this far west but we got a little residual wind tonight

Jack68: Hi montemonte i hope you are at a safe place how is foot after surgery?

Hi Jack....It was a knee replacement, not foot surgery.

Update:

There is so much damage in NJ. 14 railroad cars were picked up by the storm surge and thrown into a pile; houses were pulled from their foundation and pushed onto a main highway; hospitals lost power and patients needed to be carried down the stairs to go to other hospitals; the beach points at the shore have extreme damage.....the roller coaster at Seaside Heights is out in the ocean, the boardwalk is destroyed, more damage then you can imagine...

Part of the boardwalk in Atlantic City washed away

The Jersey Shore, which is known for it's beautiful beaches, will never look the same again

I'm lucky to have power as many surrounding towns don't.

The Governor just had a briefing and said he's going to fly over the shore towns but won't be able to land because there's no place to land, it's all gone.

2 million people don't have power

People that have evacuated won't be able to get back into their homes for a long time

Some of the homes in Little Ferry, NJ with flooded with 10 feet of water due to the Hackensack River overflowing. People that are being evacuated are barefoot with few clothes on their back. The temperature is 57 degrees.

Hey sunny I tried to send you some info on Edison NJ but you have my area blocked so I'll just post it here.

Edison is located right at the point of a funnel of land formed by Staten Island to the north and South Amboy to the south the lower NY bay backed up by the Atlantic ocea probably pushed right into Edison. The topography is fairly flat in that area so if I had to guess I'd say Edison is under water by at least 6 feet.
