montemonte: I was reading an article on the internet about today's inauguration and in the Comments section, someone wrote this. The person's name was there but I can't display that:
"I'm European so I can't be as accurate than you my American Friends. So I wish that you will get back on your heels for the sake of your country but also for the sake of the world because you know that what affects the US economy affects all of us undirectly. So we are counting on you and i wish you'll stand united to face this challenge. So good luck to you for these next 4 years!"That's what I call an international friend who believes and hopes that the United States will prosper because what happens to us will also happen to those around us.
That person doesn't want us to fail like so many others on CS do.
I don't want the US economy to fail - quite the contrary. My contracts are usually paid out in US dollars (certainly my present one is) so I need the US currency to remain strong as much as the Chinese do. Every day that the dollar falls lower I am earning less in my home currency which conversely strengthens as it is considered a high-risk currency.
I used to believe that the US would bounce back but now I just can't see how the trend is going to be reversed.
There is also a school of thought which suggests that a deteriorating American society will probably go hand-in-hand with increasing global instability. This is possibly a more frightening and worrying idea than a locally fragile domestic community. A world in turmoil is a world ripe for despots and tyrants.
Leo_7: We know that many empires and powerfull countries has fallen or dissapeard on Earth through the history.Today USA is claming to be the most powerfull country in the world. So that might cause the fall.So what would the cause of that? Natural disasters? foreign policy ? internal problems? its double standarts ? religious wars? asteroids? alien invasion or what?
Tell us ur opinion. PS.I dont wish any country falling and people suffer .This is just a thread for some debate.
I doubt anything at all. America was born out of revolution and it has continued to evolve ever since. I imagine it will continue to do so looong into the future! Long life, peace and happiness America!
The fall has come but no one noticed We live on borrowed time The dollar that was once so strong Is now worth just a dime And still the money dwindles we borrow every day we babble about austerity but we don't mean what we say It's not that a crash is coming For it is already here The illusion of continued wealth will quickly disappear for it's only due to printing currency that is not backed So the value of each new dollar Is quietly stolen from our stack. Thus they maintain the illusion of an economic rebound meanwhile midst the great confusion all the wealth is leaving town
Daniel 11:20 20. Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle. 37. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
Rumple4skin: Nonsense. Historical whackery. Early empire is far more brutal than late empire. Rome was far more cruel at the beginning and later adopted Christianity as a relatively non-violent, pragmatic measure to administer a large empire - the social glue of shared faith - ..then she fell apart.
Decadence is what kills any high culture. Continuous achievement leads to people resting upon their laurels(decadence). If anything decadent people display more pacifistic symptoms than warlike ones because they've never had to struggle for anything and therefore don't see the value in fighting.
Rome was non-violent after adopting Christianity? The Christians had a bad habit of murdering a lot of people. And the crusades? Christians slaughtered millions upon millions in all nine crusades.
Agreed, all empires fall eventually. Greed is usually the culprit as well. I think if you look at the US today, the seeds of discontent are already there...it is just a matter of time. And financially, it is close to being broke.
Boban1: fall of the Roman Empire was not a single, dramatic event – the decline of the Empire took place over around 300 years. My point here is that every empire has to fall sooner or later , until there isn`t any supreme leading entity
Yes, and looking back, in the past there was always another Empire or Era that carried on immediately, I don't remember any "The Void in Between Victorian and Georgian Times",
or "That Gap of Equilibrium inbetween the Early Empire and the Late Empire of Rome..."
Things rise and fall at their own momemtum in response to other things. We can only look backward at these events, so my question would be, are you sure in your use of the word fall and empire in the same sentence as USA? As I'm pretty sure only the US thinks they are an Empire on this planet.

Exactly, the onslaught of Christianity slew many with its ruthless viokence and it had nothing to do with decadence and laziness, but power and greed.

I`ll tell you a secret, but you have to promise not to tell ...
The Roman empire actually never fell ... the circle of power ( real rulers ) just move their welt and influence ,causing rises and falls of empires , they created the SYSTEM ...
