PrettyPrescious: I'm not at all dis-connected from the world; very informed and have friends/pals all over the world. I use the internet every day, read the paper, get the news on the internet, and read alot of non-fiction. I'm very intelligent and people say I'm interesting. Not having a cell phone doesn't make me stupid.

No you are not stupid.
I have had for last 16 years a
cell phone that is my work one.
It is a much needed necessary tool in the work I do.

I very rarely ever use it for personal use.
I have found no need to go out and buy a personal one.
Mind you, my mum who never had one I sent her one, as like some of your posters, you do worry if they are out some where and something not good should happen, but then I suppose it comes down to, did their glasses fall off, how can they see your number,or who has time to fumble in their hand bag or jeans to say HELP>

Nothing really in cyber goes undetected, it helped many crimes hone in on last areas or conversations that can lead to finding more of picture.

I kind of jump now and again when my actual landline rings, mmmm must change that tone.

I don't have a cell phone either. I just never saw a need for it. Nothing is so dang important that someone can't wait until I get home to call me or for me to call them. Why would I want a phone ringing and annoying me when I am out having a good time or trying to relax when I am away from home. It's not like I am a doctor or running a country or anything.

Suicide_Mission: a cell phone is not necessary. neither is the internet. so you people get out there and meet the old fashioned way and stop this nonsense. i'm gonna club a woman and drag her to my cave. which is normal courtship in Australia.

Re: Is a cell phone necessary?

For me, the profession I'm in makes it an invaluable tool.

I also feel every woman should have one for safety reasons.

I am getting a landline in here, some folks still don't like using a computer to communicate, and I have to stay in touch one way or another.

PrettyPrescious: I don't have a cell phone. Whenever a man finds this out, I never hear from him again. What is going on? Do they think I am some kind of a freak? or is making a phone call not the thing to do these days? Advice?

Boy, do I understand where you're coming from. I also, by choice, do not own a cell phone. It's great when I drive in my car or take a walk, etc....peace & quiet. I can actually give someone all my attention when I talk to them cause I'm not being constantly interrupted.

I agree too why doesn't people slow down and enjoy an "old fashioned" telephone call anymore. I hate emailing, texting, facebook, etc....just like the close enjoyment of one-on-one conversation and the sound of a human voice.teddybear

rohaan: I still live as close to the earth as I can, and although I can and do use some electronic devices, it is sparingly. I have a landline telephone with a few basic features. Cable T.V. out of necessity (not very good reception here without it), only recently did I buy a micro-wave oven, which I don't use very much. I have no cell phone(s), no I-Pods/Pads, notebooks, or computers of any kind. (I use a public computer. This may change in the future). Did you know that people who resist the electronic age are discriminated against? Difficult to get work, even if that work is non-technical. Bank loans difficult if you aren't "playing the electronic game". Applications now ask for e-mail, twitter and facebook addresses, and if you don't write it for them, or don't have them, they act like they think you're stupid, or an oddball.

I like you alreadycheering

I have not had most of the above for several years now, and so far I'm surviving, peaceably....just finecool

Seems unusual that a gent would not have or want all t he gizmo's..seems guys like electronics more often than women.conversing

It's interesting how non-conformity becomes a conformity all of its own. I'm referring to this inane, petty technophobia that people seem to hold up as some kind of mortal triumph.

Ah, but you see, our lack of techno conformity is a mortal triumph for some people as they refuse to comply with corporate lemming control. professor

that's right--thumbs up thumbs up not wanting to be controlled or manipulated by the new technology is not a "phobia"--it is a hallmark of free thinking individuals asserting their right to not be screwed with.

I consider having a cell phone in these days a mandatory thing, not just to be chatting or what ever other purposes people use phones lately but to communicate in an emergy, with family and clients. I am a lawyer I need to make phone calls constantly and when I am out of the city I like contacting my family through the phone and I got internet on it to come to the site and mingle in the forums or blogs or simply text or whatsapp my friends from all over the world.

However, I do not think you are freak because you dont have one, if the person contacting you is not a scammer probably he is simply a busy person that rather have communication with you this way until he can actually meet you in person, it is so common these days to interact with persons through the phone but just because you dont do it doesnt mean you are a freak, probably you dont enjoy it as much as others, arent a tech fan or consider it weird I really dont know; perhaps you should try it a while and see if you like it, it will certainly not kill you JMO wave
