Florence13: what is mean "separated" ??? that's a big silly...
a marriage can work, or not and when is not working each must follow his own way, not stay hanged by ..."separated" ... this is helping both with what ?? for save the conveniences ? or not split the "fortune" :))) or may be both are weak...
"separated" is like wear an big umbrella in sunny days without enjoy the light...
each must be free to chose a new way in life, because "show must go on", world will not stop run just because someone divorce...
so, "separated" means to accept voluntarily wear a leash and this "kill" the freedom to chose a new way
thumbs up

I do realise that some people run into complications when trying to divorce so those are special occasion's where I get to know the person and trust him that he is not the hold-up. That in fact, either law, or his wife wont sign the papers, etc. So I do take that in to consideration but sometimes you do have to question the "facts".

I agree and I don't date separated men but as I mentioned above, I do realise some complications come into play. For me, it's too many strings attached so I stay clear.

What makes them married?, a paper on file at city hall?
Just change the theme separated to: No longer love each other,
no longer committed to each other. What you have is no longer
married.

lalasierra: Would you date someone who is seperated from his wife or her husband?

Some things that are obvious to be considered: Are you willing to invest your time, energy and emotions to someone who MIGHT get back together with their husband or wife? Are you up for the competition? What if you've fallen in love with this person? What if the one you're with isn't the one who wanted the seperation and would jump at the oppportunity to go back if the spouse decided to take them back and try to salvage their marriage. You COULD be dropped like a hot potato!

There are a few scenario's to be up against with someone who is seperated. The word "unstable" comes to mind.

On the other hand, he/she may NOT have any intention's on going back but their spouse wants to buy time, thinking they may change their mind and return to the marriage. So the word "seperated" may be hindering this individual from dating because the word "seperated" is an automatic red flag to people. They may feel that there is too much bagagge/drama and not even give the seperated person a chance?

Hmmm???

I was that separated person !!
In Australia you can not get divorced for 2 yrs after your marriage !!
I dragged my feet divorced my ex after 3 years !!

And I never went back

What makes them not married? Yet another piece of paper on file at the divorce court...

I understand the law can be a huge flaw but it's hard to know whether the two will reconcile or not. Unfortunately, people like yourself may be passed by.

Say if someone is newly seperated and hadn't had a chance to catch their breath so to speak.Wouldn't they be considered 'Rebound' relationships?

Or you could get hurt yourself thinking your partner is over his/hers, when really he/she is just enjoying something new for the time.
