Dev was no provo. He would never have sanctioned the killing of women, children and innocents in general. The IRA if the early 20th century targeted British soldiers, policemen serving the crown, and British government staff.

You sound like you're basing your whole knowledge of Dev on his character in the movie Michael Collins. Dev was a politician and acted like any politician would have. It makes me laugh when people give Dev stick. The man was willing to sacrifice his life for the country and spent years behind bars for the country. And the people who give him stick have a problem paying extra taxes to the country.

I know what happened in N. Ireland in the late 60's. I did history too. It was no excuse to kill innocent people going about their every day business. Women, kids, pensioners. No excuse at all.

And the IRA of the early 20th century were not a terrorist group. They were a guerilla warfare group. They attacked police, army and government officials....They didn't use terror tactics.
