Newlife08: It is loosing its appeal for me too Micky. Never been there, had chance to, but if I go on holiday or visiting another place, I want to feel safe? I am a person who respects other cultures and countries but I don't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time.

Maybe it's an age thing, when I was younger I did the maddest things in Europe travelling, or they seem mad now!

My point is I want to go on holiday to rest, enjoy, see places and it doesn't matter how cheap it is I want to feel that I am safe and will come back home. Boring I know but don't need that kind of excitement, had enough in my misspent youth

our age newie but then again ive never been over seas . I was working to make money didn't want to spend it when I was young rolling on the floor laughing When I was married we never had any money !!
So ive never travelled
Would prefer an upmarket country that appears safer !!
Not Indonesia or north korea rolling on the floor laughing

That's where you went wrong Micky! I had it sussed when I was still in High School - I want to travel, and if I get married, have a mortgage and kids that's not likely to happen, unless I marry someone who is a Microsoft top Exec which would have been pretty difficult cos the internet hadn't been invented then doh

I had a plan, did languages at school/college, got a job in Spain first up and never looked back. thumbs up

Had the most fantastic 20's, travel, money, lovely men to share my life with. Soooo glad I did it then cos once you have kids, that put an end to my travels crying

But I wouldn't change them for the world. Hope to do more travelling but work is getting in the way sigh

But I am planning ...... thumbs up

Newlife08: Note to myself - don't even consider taking a boogie board to Bali filled with extra goodies!

I think that is why the Feds went after ch 7, it IS a crime in Aus to profit from crime so they are trying to prevent any 'offshore' deals which would take it out of Aus jurisdiction?

This is all fairly recent times legislation, but honestly if it was say that nut job who murdered all those people in Tasmania (can't think of the name of the place, the ex-convict place), would you feel the same if he was on TV and paid for an interview? And how about the families of his victims having to watch a ******le like that getting richer from talking about the death of their loved ones.

Maybe same for families whose kids are having probs with dope?? What do you think they might think about all this??
if she wasn't convinced of any crime in Australia is she still breaking the Australian law . Another question if the court was held in Australia would she have been convicted at all? The initial reaction from the government was that she probably wouldn't have because the evidence was tampered with. dunno dunno

Merriweather: and whether convicted or not... It seems that weed was not foreign to her nor her way of living..

But being she had been in Bali before, if she thought she could get away with there... she sadly found it was not so..

I am hoping that she does not get to tell her story, as after all the stories... no one would know if she was getting squillions to tell the truth, or just weigh on with the lies , and fabrication...

If she really was innocent of every aspect, you would imagine that she would be happy to be not in jail... and to just shun ever aspect of the media...
who cares if she makes squillions from her story, she's done her time, it's only pot and she was in jail for way too long for such a small amount of pot.
alcohl is more problematic than pot, hope she never has to work again, that's because of the stupid public that folow the stupid story that the media pushes on them....e

Not sure exactly how the law works AA but from what has been said by the Feds recently the money that came from her book "My Story" (or something) went thru' her sister Mercedes. So they want to avoid that situation as well so I am guessing maybe cos she is an Australian citizen and Ch 7 is Aus too?? Don't know just surmising?

As far as if the court was held in Australia ..... is irrelevant, it happened over there and I think we all know that things don't always go by the booK?? conversing No CCTV footage? Language difficulties? Maybe didn't have the right amount of errrrm 'look the other way money'?? Who knows? It's a lot of 'she said' 'they said'.

That's the thing - if she tells HER story, the Indonesian customs/police won't be involved, get to have their say in that????

cool

I didnt follow the Underbelly story when it came out and everyone made such a hype out of it as I dont believe in glorifying illegal behavior and idolising the participants of it. I dont see the Corby story as any different.

The Corby's have done an excellent job over the years of keeping the story in the spotlight, to keep it there in the public psyche. It is time for them to take a step back and allow life to go on, not keep shoving it in the publics faces

Someone mentioned the Port Arthur massacre earlier, the person was Martin Bryant and, NO I dont want to hear his story either unless he wants to front up and take responsibility for his actions. Too many do things then look for an "out" that it wasnt actually their fault but was because of "X" happened when I was a kid, etc etc as the excuses go on.

She was in jail for a long time and a hellhole at that thumbs up

And how would she get employment after all this anyway?

Then, if she was unemployed, people would be complaining about her receiving Centrelink payments doh laugh

It's definitely a media-driven story for a scandal-hungry public and will soon blow over in time for the next one.

Got a feeling he got away with that cos he was just slammed into Guantanamo Bay, no legal rep, no charges, foreign country, think it might not even be a 'court' as such?

Think he still has a legal case going on with that situation.

I could be wrong here but I don't think David was ever convicted,I think the Yankees only held him under suspicion of being a terrorist.

All in all, I think the law is a good idea. I think the public got sick of 60 mins/Current Affair paying ridiculous amounts of money for an 'exclusive interview' with some low life serial killer or whatever?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. devil very mad devil

robplum: Because i happen to agree with Tango and i posted before his post i believe it would be impossible for that amount of week to be checked in baggage that then passage'd through baggage handling, loaded on a plane before being detected at Bali. Impossible, caught with 4.2kg of marijuana, have a look at the size of of the due its alleged simply handed to the baggage check in person

Open your eyes and your mind instead...

Maybe we will never know Rob? Maybe the INdonesian Customs/Police wanted to pick out a foreigner/aussie to make an example of them?

Maybe it all had something to do with our fractured relationship with Indonesia?? Just flexing their muscles?

could be, somewhere the truth resides and that should be exposed

Re David Hicks he happened to be silly enough to fight with the Taliban BEFORE Bush Blair and Howard invaded Afghanistan and was fished out of the eight thousand odd Taliban un-armed prisoners or war, that were then all murdered under supervision of American Special Forces in and old disused castle.

Re: Martin Bryant, he certainly wasn't capable of shooting from his hip 15 people between the eyes with a 7.62 caliber rifle.
More likely the Vietnam Veteran murdered at 1-15 a.m. in the morning as he tried to go to bed by Tasmanian Police one night who had been a sniper in Australian Army during his service in South Vietnam, much more likely that person was responsible for most of the deaths than drug crazed Bryant

robplum: which maybe why
(a) she has been kept in Bali
(b) the raid yesterday on Channel 7 to during the term current government ensure truth is never told
(c) breaches of Australian Law, likened to the kid (Bali 5) the parents advised the feds why there son was travelling to Bali

no none of us have got good memories Merri
