I had a Mamod steam traction engine, when about 10 years old, would have taken it to bed with me if allowed lol.
Sadly I took it to school where it was immediately confiscated until the end of term, by then I had discovered the joy of bicycles, so the Mamod was kind of redundant

Kind of similar to this

I was born and grew up in Soviet Union time, that means the boders outside the Soviet Union was closed within inside blockade too so no cinderrelas, barbies back then. We kids used our imigination a lot, we created a lot.Oh my God what we did not create, dolls, homes, shops, schools, hopsitals, planets, uffos.
I was lucky my father used to go " outside " the country time to time, to Moscow, Bulgaria etc. I used to get german dolls but my favourite was a sewing machine with battaries and piano.
Great times it was, we valued what we had a lot.

You can still buy them, just checked lol, hence the picture, but wow so expensive, I had no idea it was that much, assume it was cheaper in the 60's

Anyone remember the "Philips" electronic construction kits? Can't remember the actual name, but I learnt so much from those, and spent hours and hours making various "gadgets. Made a tiny radio which I kept under my pillow at school, so I could listen to radio Luxembourg and radio Carolinegrin
Later moved on to Heathkits projects, and then computers, guess my childhood was a huge influence on my then chosen career.

I got a scooter when I was 6. I was so excited.

Before even checking where the brakes were, I went straight to the top of a hilly road and zoomed down. Heaven! banana

OH! Are you talking what we called 'crystal sets' Riz grin

Oh yeah, I had one, I remember it had a light green plastic case and I used to listen to it at night as I lay in bed daydream

That was before I inherited a magnificent Decca record player/sound system from my parents when I was around ten years old ..

It was in a timber cabinet with louvred slide back doors, wow, you've prompted me to realize where my love of music came from happy place

Crystal radio?
Mine was shaped like a rocket.
It was based on the same principle as picking up broadcasts on your toaster if you lived near a ham radio operator.

Ham Radio. Ha.
No, you didn't eat it.

There's nothing wrong with that, Lilly.
Plus you didn't have the advertising.
Thinking back, very few kids had the really hot toys, but most kids had TV and saw the ads.
I think this created an unfulfilled desire that manifests itself today in rampant consumerism. professor

I was a big fan of any kind of teddybears.

I preferred the "real ones" though and was more out playing with cats, calves etc. conversing

All I know is that I was already into music back then, I was probably about 8 years old conversing

It's such a memorable time for me .. the Beatles came to Australia in 1964 and one of my treasured memories is of sitting with my older brother, early in the morning, eating WeetBix in front of the TV watching their arrival
