Illinois' Governor joined in the panic today and announced the same rules will apply to Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

The interesting thing is they decided this themselves without consulting with Federal officials or their own Health Departments or having any new statutes passed. There now exists a case of a female nurse, Kaci Hickox, who may have had a fever (there is dispute about this) upon arrival at Newark Airport and was brought to a hospital and checked for Ebola and it was determined she does not have Ebola. Nevertheless although now deemed medically healthy, she remains forcibly quarantined in a tent outside the hospital until her 21 days are up.

It remains to be seen if she will file a lawsuit. This is a situation where a government has detained someone not because they did something wrong, or illegal, but because of a fear they may someday develop an illness. It will be interesting to see what happens if one of her relatives files a Federal Writ of Habeas Corpus demanding release.

About 150 persons a day arrive in the US from those West African countries where an outbreak of Ebola has occurred. Some do land in NY and NJ. Others fly into other cities. Those persons landing in such places as Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles or Honolulu will not be detained.

No details have been released yet as to exactly where those arriving in the named cities will be quarantined, who will bear the cost of feeding and housing them, how the required workers will be protected as the tent cities grow, or what kind of sanitation arrangements will be made for treating any waste which may or may not be infected with Ebola (only time will tell).

You might like to get the CDC to pull the USAF documents that conclusively found that Ebola can not present symptoms in some patients for 42 days.

The origin of the cluster is thought to be around a facility that has a Biological Warfare that had a contract with the Americans, and it's my understanding that the country concerned has voided this contract, and reopened the facility on the basis of the hospital being in need of use.

Now considering the original research was to merge the flu virus with Ebola, this is clearly a weapon,but it's not in the public domain what the contract they were working on.

Well the American Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, flew to New Guinea, and just as I was thinking we should all grab some popcorn to watch what happens if she is ordered to go live in a tent city upon return and if her bodyguards say nope, Governor Cuomo (NY) announced a roll back of the quarantine policy and that those arriving could self quarantine at home and that it would only be for the returning Health Workers, so there will be no entertainment when the UN Ambassador returns. "People who return from the Ebola zones but didn't have contact with Ebola patients will be handled on a case-by-case basis" according to a fact sheet handed out at the Governor's conference. NJ Governor Christie also seems to have backed down a little by announcing his new policy also allows for at home quarantines when appropriate. :)
