secretagent09: I think attractive people do get a second look from a perspective employer.
An employer wants to know that a potential employee respects their body enough to take care of it, that they take the time to be well groomed which in turn will show that they take the time to go an extra step to show respect for the company they work for.
Someone who isn't god's gift to the world can still go the extra step to show up with a haircut and a little makeup to improve their appearance.
It's all about never getting a second chance to show the first impression.
In response to: Do attractive people have or get better advantages or opportunities in life, i.e., the workplace, etc. than average looking people?
Unfortunately, sad but true, I do believe so. I have witnessed it first hand myself.
My looks changed drastically a couple of years back - I was a lot heavier.
I don't think that I have better employment chances (other when it's a physical job) but I do notice more attention from men, that includes sometimes colleagues which isn't necessarily a good thing.

That is great that you have lost some weight. It's sometimes not an easy task but once you've done it, I'm sure you boosted your self esteem and hopefully you feel healthier. Congratulations!

....ijust hate having to repeat myself......but we do....get..best jobs/money.....and all the best things in life......while you phesants....grope for coins.......
lifeisadream: Good looks can have a good beginning but it is not a guarantee for any thing.
Personality is what lasts
I agree and would like to add that good looks don't always last forever, they (good looks) do eventually fade away when nature steps in, and she sure will!
JoyDivision69: Attractive people definitely get a head start in the entertainment industry
That's true too. I don't recall seeing an equal amount of attractive versus average people in the entertainment industry. I can name more attractive actresses/actors than average or not so average, sad to say, but my memory may not be up to par, due to old age, lol! Jk (just kidding).
Handsomeness is a seed at the game, maybe even a high seed. Beauty is a golden ticket.
A really handsome man could get by on looks alone but he'll never be the envy of other men. A male 10 with no personality or status will not get a female 10 with no personality because beauty trumps handsome by a country mile. What he would get is a female 6 or maybe 7 who won't give him too much of a hard time. And he will also not be able to sleep his way up the corporate ladder(unless he's gay).
Beautiful women, however, are inherently the envy of other women. And they also get what other women want. If she's beautiful she could get the man all other woman want and she most probably can advance her career on her back.

The usefulness of looks does largely depend on whether you're a man or woman. Girls envy the prettiest girl but boys do not envy the prettiest boy, instead they envy the most confident/cool/talented/strong of the boys.
This is a truth everyone knows in the playground, yet many wilfully forget as they get become older and less honest.
Yes I suppose the good looking one will attract more notice at first sight but to get on in life I think it is confidence and charisma that is the most poignant,
