So here it is, on this bleak night, in Wexford. Its a funny old county I have enjoyed all my life, i am part of it, and yet are we? Since the church deformed the communities of Ireland do not mingle. We dont brush shoulders with randomers in Unity to a holy devine, within a 10 year period it is gone... all that remains is a giant tombstone you can pray inside of.

My point is I want YOU to brush shoulders with me. say something BOLD say something brash. Be Confident and love thy neighbour....

Anyone out there want to tell me what would be the best thing to happen to all those empty churches we do in fact still own, as the people... Internet cafe? A social club like the 70's? Hit me up, just a chat, its your man, this is stan, nah im not stan but go 4 it. ('banana');banana

Hi Wexford manhandshake

I agree there is one less place to meet neighbours and friends since people stopped going to mass.

But i don't think we own church property, i believe that is Church property. For them to dispose or or use.

Just goes to show how long it is since I replied to a thread on here, premature postation laugh

Anyway, here's what I was thinking....

1. The church has not deformed
2. The communities of Ireland still do, and will always, mingle
3. Why do you think the church and communities are so linked?
4. I brush shoulders with randomers every day, it's one of my favourite pastimes, but it has nothing to do with "Unity to a holy devine" doh

You wanted something bold and brash? I'm not sure if what I've said is either, it's just my thoughts on your thoughts.....

With regards to the empty churches, put forward thinking, honest priests into them and they won't be empty for long. Other than that.....rave clubs? dunno

My first reply on connectingsingles but I'm sure I'll manage. Your wording made me lol, very good, and yes these are the obvious rebukes to a societal collapse. But with respect I'm not talking a 10 year plan here, but a 200 year plan of how people living further and further from eachother through the process of technology will lead us to a chip in the brain mega race with giant heads. Nonetheless, that is not my main arguement, I just want to meet people on this thread who are like minded and fancy some running debates. btw, A nightclub would be great, but sacreligious don't you think?
doh

Also "unity of the holy devine" is almost exactly the wording used in the 80's and 90's, thats my theme here :) but thabks for replying keep it coming

Hey there , i think alot of the land was paid for with state money, but definately with our dubious "offerings" which were paid to maintain the buildings, its debatable cheering

So why link your thoughts to the Catholic church?

If you want input into the debate of social interaction, I'm with you. I just don't get the church aspect of it?

As 2 great men once said to me, there are 2 things that should never be discussed in the pub (and I think of this place like chatting in the pub), Politics and Religion thumbs up

I'm not raining on your parade, just confused as to your thinking....

Lol highlighting my wording, thank you, i liked that part with the giant brains. Thats a good point about the pub thing, but how about i put it this way. All the great love movies, are sometimes entirely based around two families who frequent the church on sundays (and wednesdays), and the boy and girl from either family get together in the end. Where is that now? That exact experience is evaporating.

Where do romeo and juliet meet now? in real life? LIDL?
neither religion nor politics.....

Movies = Fiction

Romeo and Juliet can meet wherever the hell they want....Lidl, the pub, online, stuck in a traffic jam, who knows?

.....and on that point, I bid you goodnight tip hat

i think Romeo and juliet met at a ball. With harp music in the background, that would seem like complete fiction compared to the present music in social scenes. 21st Century Romeo would be screaming in Juliets ear, and thats not romantic. neither is lidl, or the pub. I dunno... Churches are very romantic... anyone?

I'm not Irish and even if I went to church growing up, I didn't see it as a place to meet people. We have 2 churches in my hometown now which are used as "burial churches" were there aren't a masses anymore, but urns are kept. The church in Germany is involved a lot in child minding with running kindergardens & clubs for kids after school where they are supervised, especially in socially disadvanted areas. Thats something positive imo.

I suppose the church was always there but we never looked for guidance or let it influence us that much. Maybe people should do the same here.
