Speaking as a person who used to respond to every single message I received....
I determined after one year of spending most of my time on CS responding to messages, to stop the madness of allowing strangers to dictate how I should interact on this site.
Many of us (and I am sure you as well), have limited down time. I, and everyone else on here, has every right to determine how to use that time. Responding to "Hi how are you?" is a lesson in futility. Responding to insults because I wasn't grateful enough for their message was a lesson in frustration. Getting caught up in message after message of trying to defend myself from their continued and increasing insults because I still was not grateful enough for their few seconds of attention, became a lesson in insanity.
It had to stop. And it stopped with me taking control of me. That is not impolite.

I can imagine your frustration & many others in your position.. It's a shame that a few bad apples spoil it for the genuine ones but maybe the one you didn't respond to could have been your ideal match if given the chance.. I'm still optimistic, but then, I have only been on this site a few months!

As for the obvious scammers. .
If one of the genuine ones reply back, and I am interested, i will continue the conversation. If not, I will let them know I am not interested.
