Hi Secret..
When I went to America a noticed a Lot of preservatives in the food.. Probably another reason.. Our bread for instance lasts 2 days and you have to throw it away.. Bread in the USA stays fresh for a week!.. Chickens are huge, all the hormones pumped into them

Hi Serene.....In the summer I keep bread in the refrigerator. When I'm dieting, which seems to be all the time, I keep it in the fridge cause I don't eat a lot of it. Very true that poultry is pumped up with hormones.
Our biggest problem is fast food. People in New Jersey are always rushing around and it's easier to drive up to a window and order a triple decker burger with super duper fries and an extra large drink. I don't eat fast food or even drink soda. In the southern states they deep fry everything. In New York they deep fry a Snickers bar. I'm told it's very good.

One of our members will be pleased that his state has the lowest obesity rate.
Unemployment rates are also shown for each state

Never been outside of Australia no idea .
But my weight went off the scale developed type 2 diabetes and that went up and up .
Decided to get help went and paid a dietitan dropped 30 kilos.
So I went to a work function ended with a head injury possible brain injury.
Spent a month in hospital and their rehab clinic they wanted my weight to increase . I had a heated discussion with the rehab dietitan that refused what I said as I wasn't referred .
Last year I was 127 kilos last week I was 88 kilos and they wanted my weight to go up no way I want it just to go to 77 or 76 kilos .
If your worried cut carbs down don't eat sugar stuff

I'm not worried. I posted this mainly for Americans to check out their own state and for those who say that Americans are all obese. Seems that some of us are.

It is slowly going that way over here too.
We are years behind US levels, but will get there before too long.
Portion sizes have increased. Treats are everyday things, instead of being an occasional "treat'.
The influx of fast-food joints, and fancy coffees have also helped.
Drastic action has to be taken to reverse it before it takes hold.

It becomes an unhealthy lifestyle. People are out of work and lazy. They sit in front of the tv with snacks and then take a nap
Wake up, go to the burger or pizza joint, watch tv and then time for bed.
Repeat tomorrow.
I think a lot of it has to do with morale. Unemployment is still high no matter what Obama says. Health insurance costs an arm and a leg. Depression is high. So what do they do, they eat.
And don't get me started on tv food commercials.

Obesity, its not the greatest measure of health. Anybody with a BMI above a certain level is technically obese, and so most professional rugby players are obese. "Average" is another description that means very little any more, as demonstrated by airline seats being widened to accommodate the average back side.

The front linemen of American football are obese to look at and because of their BMI. Those guys have a strenuous exercise program. Their BMI is high but their heart rate and more then likely low. However, their cholesterol percentage is probably high so that makes them unhealthy.
I disagree with you that obesity is not the greatest measure of health.
