This thread obviously poses more than one question so please express your thoughts/opinions regarding the current issues between Apple & the FBI.

Should the FBI be allowed to break-in to ANY iPhone?

Would you consider this procedure to be an invasion of privacy?

Should the FBI be given permission to break-in to the iPhone of the 2015 San Bernadino attacker's?

Is Apple protecting the 227 year old law, The U.S. Constitution, or is Apple interferring with the efforts to combat terrorism?

Thank you for comments

While I'm not familiar with the case you refer to, I feel law enforcement agencies should have access to the phone and computer records of anyone who is suspected of breaking the law.

They have the capability to do this for a long time I can remember 20 years ago the system X chips, for operating phones, had a built in facility to do this.

However I think a tight rein should be kept on this or various bodies will be using this facility for all sorts of reasons.JMO

tomcatwarne: I've gotta say I side with Apple on this one.

I'm on the fence, it's a tough call. Both have valid points, protection of the constitution & privacy and then there's the aspect of combatting terrorism and crime by having the access. Both are important issues.

I'm sure no one will complain if a potential terrorist attack was halted as a result of an intervention by the authorities ... Also they will be able to monitor p*dophile trying to groom children.
So if you have nothing to hide, I don't see it being a problem.thumbs up

I dont understand why the FBI cant give the phone to Apple, then Apple can deal with it and give the FBI the contents of the phone without divulging their secret squirrel stuff. The authorities are not always on the level, like the situation with Julian assange/Manning etc.

Yes I am not against these facilities being used for these purposes, but a free rein I am against, the use of eves dropping should be carefully monitored and controlled, as it is now.

True, but some people view it as the government having too much power, ya know.

If it was a gun, we'd have to wait until someone used it, but I cannot believe the NSA cannot hack it.

I doubt they have the manpower or facilities to monitor every single one of us.
But if they get a tip-off, it's reassuring to know they could hack the person/s in question , in order to act as quickly as possible before a disaster takes place.

Good point, I suppose because Apple feels if they do it once, it will be expected on a regular basis and "authority" will be abused more so.

I'm probably not alone in suspecting they already have far more than us peasants realise conversing

I bet they can but if they did they would have to reveal their tactics and would expose themselves for breaking the law and the constitution and may then be held accountable.
