KremaP: Oh, hope it's not going to become a wave of revenge... The moment a policeman puts his uniform on and goes on the street he becomes a walking target. How easy is that?! And how he feels in a situation where his life is threatened it's only him who knows...
How correct you are that the uniform is the target, not always the person.
I have a police officer in my family. Five days a week I knew she had the uniform on. Five days a week I was concerned would somebody from the police department come to my door with bad news. I knew she was well trained but so were the officers in Dallas. An officer never knows where the bullet is going to come from that might kill him/her.

Kaybee50: A policeman has just been shot in the neck, a few minutes from where I live.
An act of revenge?
It seems police officers will now fear carrying out their duties. Every day could be their last. That was always the case, but more so, now, I'm afraid.
BerrySmoothie: As Lou Lou mentioned, and I agree....revised gun laws are urgently required in America.
If, we, New Zealanders, had a license to carry(our gun laws are very strict, unless the firearm has been obtained illegally)....it would be absolute bedlam, I'm sure.
It's too late. The statistics show that there are more guns than people in USA. It says there are 40 million more guns than people...and that's the licensed ones, guess how many illegal are on the streets...

BALLWIN, MO (KTVI)- Authorities are investigating after a police officer was shot during a traffic stop Friday morning in west St. Louis County. It happened shortly before 11 a.m. near the 300 block of New Ballwin Road. According to our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the wound was in the neck.
The officer, who works for the Ballwin Police Department, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown at this time.
The suspect was apprehended a short time later in the 800 block of Burgundy Lane after a foot pursuit. A weapon was recovered.
Police say he is a tall, thin African-American male who was wearing a gray tee-shirt and blue jeans.
He was driving a blue Ford Taurus with Illinois temporary tags during the time of the shooting.

We'll find out more as the day goes by I suppose. I hope the police officer survives. The area he was shot is not common for violence of any kind.

It's a very hard profession, and sadly not many realise it. Only who have done it himself or like you, feared every single hour while their loved ones are on duty can understand. We are talking a life being at stake every day...

Then there will be more needless innocent lives lost.
No matter how many guns are in circulation, a universal revised gun law in the States, is a start in the right direction.

There are guns because there is fear... Nobody, who feels safe will buy himself a gun. There is some kind of "weapon culture" in USA... Wishful thinking can not change anything...

Or is there fear because so many people are armed with guns?
I'm grateful my family and I live in a relatively safe country with tight restrictions to firearm access.
BerrySmoothie: I certainly would fear people, Krema, who are armed and potentially dangerous.
People can kill with or without a gun...one should not wait to see what the other one will use... I am afraid it has built up too much in USA, seeing photos of tiny kids holding massive rifles, mothers having guns near baby cots and so on...it is a family tradition already. It seems impossible to reverse that process.
truheart1941: why did,nt they send in the swat team.....wearing the right gear......?????......
That's a good question.
I'm thinking that SWAT isn't sitting around in riot gear waiting for a call
I think it takes a bit of time to get the uniform and gear on and to ready the vehicles.
What happened in Dallas was an on-going situation that needed immediate attention.
If these violent situations continue our local police officers might have to start wearing riot gear everyday. If that happens my country will become a police state.
