The driver of the massacre truck is Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31, living in Nice. I could be wrong but I believe that Security police waved him on after he explained he was delivering ice cream.
Why didn't someone recognize that he was not driving a refrigerated truck?
purr4mance: NICE, France — A day after a terrorist mowed down dozens of people celebrating Bastille Day in the coastal French city of Nice, investigators Friday dug into the life of the man they say was the killer: A 31-year-old delivery driver and Nice resident who was born in Tunisia.
Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a rented, refrigerated truck into crowds along a roughly 2-kilometer stretch of Promenade des Anglais along Nice’s Mediterranean beachfront Thursday night, killing 84 people — including 10 children and adolescents — and injuring 202 others, French prosecutor François Molins said Friday.
The attack ended when police shot into the truck, killing the assailant. Of the injured, 52 were in critical condition, and 25 were in a coma Friday afternoon, Molins said.
Staff at the Lenval Hospital in Nice said 28 children remained hospitalized.
Yeah, this ice cream delivery truck is about the same size as the one that used to drive through my neighborhood selling ice cream when I was a kid....
I do not see a refrigeration compressor/condenser unit on this vehicle used to run over people in nice France (usually mounted on the front of a Truck's straight or semi-trailer cargo box). This truck has an airfoil but I don't see a compressor/compressor or interconnecting hoses on any video I've looked at.
Do you have a link or photo of the inside of this truck's cargo area?
Here's a link of a video recording (3rd from the top) that show's no refrigeration compressor/condenser on this truck's cargo box.... (at about 55 seconds into it.) right after the LEOs shot and killed the driver of the ice cream delivery truck.

it sure wasn't anything i remember as a kid running down the street chasing a nutty buddy.
I don't see any refrigeration compressor/condenser unit on this vehicle either. after searching the web, looking at pics./videos,and reading, i'm beginning to believe there was a mistake by a reporting agency and the rest of the news sources just followed suit and went with refrigerated truck.

couldn't find anything inside cargo area.
i did find a pic that may help your curiosity...
I think someone intentionally reported to the press that the truck was a refrigerated type to cover up the blunder for whoever (police/security) didn't recognize that fact and consequently let the murder through.

Why France.
France's strict secular laws which ban the Islamic veil in schools and covering the face in public have outraged Islamic hardliners, according to religious historian Odon Vallet.
"For them France's clear-cut secularism is incompatible with Islam," he added.
The country's commitment to freedom of speech, which allows unfettered criticism of religion, has also put it in the jihadists' crosshairs.
The deadly attack against the Charlie Hebdo magazine in January 2015 came out of the assailants' fury at the satirical weekly's controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
"France is the country where the debate over Islam" gets the most heated, argued sociologist Raphael Liogier.
But "history is also a hidden reason", Vallet said, pointing out France's "role in the break up of the Ottoman empire" in 1920 which led to the end of the caliphate.
The Sykes-Picot agreement that carved up Iraq and Syria between France and Britain is often cited by Islamic State as the root of the region's problems.
This "colonial history makes France one of IS's principal enemies," Vallet added.
'Social apartheid'
France is home to the biggest Muslim community in Europe, estimated at five million people.
Most are descended from families from the country's former northern African colonies, with which France has a painful shared history, with hundreds of thousands dying during the Algerian war of independence.
Job discrimination has further hampered integration, with some third- and even fourth-generation immigrants claiming they are not made to feel properly French.
Tensions with the police are never far from the surface in some of the rundown suburban housing estates with large immigrant populations, where youth unemployment runs at more than 40 percent.
