Impossible to choose, it depends on my mood. But there are pieces of music that make me stop in the middle of whatever I'm doing in order to listen to.
Waltz from film "Snowstorm" by Sviridov is one of those pieces.
Waltz from "Masquerade" by Khachaturian is another.
Looks like I'm into waltzes :)

by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra
conducted by Kurt Sanderling
Somebody stole my CD years go
BUT I also like the 2010 Classical jazz quartet version too
Other than that I like Bach and Mozart because they can make such great Jazz vehicles for a Band withe Vibes on the front or a Quartet such as Milt Jackson on the big Concert Deagan and the original MJQ here -

I studied Rachmaninoff while in University. I wonder if he had chromesthesia as several popular composers did.
My final research was done on Shostakovich though.
The Russian Five are always being played in my home.
It would be interesting to hear his music in the scale tuning of the time when it was composed.

Yes I like Rachmaninoff. He is buried in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY which is about 50 miles south of where I grew up. I think you can see his burial stone from the train on the Harlem Line out of Grand Central Terminal. Here is one of his works played on the Grand Organ at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC just a few blocks south of Trump Tower on 5th Avenue and across the Avenue from Rockefeller Center. The organist is from Spain.
