Half an hour spent looking at Fox News clips on Youtube doesn’t amount to extensive research, I admit that, but it is enough to make it obvious that Fox News is far more propaganda than news. I always thought the purpose of news programmes was to inform people of the facts, not to tell them what to think. I know we all have our prejudices and preferences and like to be told what we prefer to hear, but what is the point of news if it’s biased? We all get things wrong sometimes but if we are never presented with an impartial account of what is going on, how are we supposed to make an informed decision when we vote?
I find the idea of people preferring having their prejudices reinforced, to hearing the truth, amazing.
After many years of watching news and listening to political discussions almost every day - the "political" part of me simply - died. So, I stopped watching and reading news completely. Every now and then some information flies to my direction, but I don't pay much attention. Giving up on politics didn't change my life a bit (I didn't lose anything at all). My opinion and feelings were never important anyway.

Well said - I agree - I stopped taking any daily paper in 2008 and since 2010 have made a rule to watch the news once or twice daily Only, (Morning & Night ) I am extremely abusive to all cold Phone callers. Any politician who cold calls at my door against a warning NO cold callers of any description for any purpose gets told twop words Foxtrot Oscar -- My view is. - They who disobey my polite request will get extremely abusive language in one syllable & told to Involve the police if they don't like it as I will say what I like how I like in OR on my property upon which they trespass.
For a couple of years ago I stopped reading Swedish news papers (propaganda in its purest form, worst than Soviet times Pravda) and switched to the Guardian.
While it's also a propaganda machine, its bullets are not aimed at me, so I can see the trajectories.
Then they allow comments and comments there are, for the most, at very high level both in terms of the language and the content.
Then, as I don't have any connections to UK, I can absorb news without getting emotionally involved and remaining open for different opinion.
Then they haven't established a pay-wall yet, so I get the whole package free. Double sweetness :)
Harbal: It doesn't even mention Boris Johnson, Tulefell, such spin is exactly what you would expect from Fox.
Once upon a time I lived in the country-side and one summer we got a visiting fox kid. I started to feed it and took some photos. Out of the lack of imagination I called it Foxie (I started to learn English then). It's only Fox I ever knew and during our brief acquaintanceship it never mentioned Boris Johnson either. Coincidence? :)
To sum it up: yes, people hear only what they want to hear and those, who own mass-media, own the world. That's scaring, itsn't it? Are you sure you want to hear that?
Tulefell: I think Baltic countries got some benefits. Né?
I doubt that's the case, when you consider half the workforce has migrated to more prosperous countries such as Britain & Germany to seek their fortune.

I don't have a TV and I don't read newspapers, the only news I hear is from BBC radio. While some of it is scary, I find the BBC don't try to whip me up into a frenzy about it.

My understanding is that The UK is a net contributor to the EU while most of the recently joined Eastern European countries are net recipients. I haven't fact checked that, so it might not be accurate.
