MisterForYou: I get the impression that very average men expect to hook above average women, and vice versa. Why do we have these inflated ideas of what we are worth? We are not all gods and goddesses, why can't we accept an average Joe or Joette?
There is no such thing as 'average' - uniquely beautiful people deserve other wonderful people to make their lives extra special

It's unmanliness. Marry down a bit, we know what a ball ache women are.

I just had to participate with your post--it seemed interesting. I have been searching the internet for the last 15 minutes trying to find several quotes that are germane to this. (Don't care for misquotes....) One goes something like this: "Have no contemporaries (friends, lovers, etc...) not equal to yourself". Now, that may seem snobbish to some, but I believe there is a great deal of validity in it. We are not going to be happy, {unless we're just that type of alpha that needs to dominate}, with someone who can't or won't meet us on our intellect level. It's human nature. Knowing that WE are eclectic, capable, and that we have a good sense of self-worth is not "inflated ideas". It's actually very healthy.
