epirb: Crap , there was very little support for Canada .
And if you want to get pedantic, there was very little support for the Saudis. Most countries stayed the hell out of it, just like Canada publicly stayed out of it when Saudi Arabia had recent diplomatic Spats with Germany and Sweden.

What you are doing is confusing "little public support for Canada or Saudi Arabia" with "Everyone supported the Saudis JUST LIKE MY HERO!!!" Which is not a very nuanced position. to put it mildly.

I agree. Especially after all the articles saying 'Canada wants to play a bigger part on the world stage'. Then they can't expect the United States or any (English speaking country) to run in and save them, when they comment or criticise or pass judgement, on world events.
If the Saudis are pissed or pull up stakes .. oh well, roll eyes welcome to that world stage.

I grew up speaking French; but nobody else does, and I can't understand it anymore.

One of 15 Saudis that targeted Khashoggi dies in suspicious car accident
Claims are circulating that Meshal Saad M. Albostani, who visited the consulate while Khashoggi was still inside, could have been silenced

Turkey seems to be angling to replace the Prince by appealing to the King

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has publicly torn down Saudi claims that the dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi died in a fight in its Istanbul consulate, making fresh allegations that his death was a premeditated murder and calling for an independent investigation.

In the hotly anticipated address at the Turkish parliament in Ankara, in which the president had promised to reveal the “naked truth” about what happened to Khashoggi, Erdogan said he was not satisfied with Riyadh’s version of events of what happened and called for the “highest ranked” of those responsible to be brought to justice.

Tabling new allegations that Saudi officials scoped out rural areas outside Istanbul the day before Khashoggi’s murder, the president said Riyadh’s suggestion that the killing was a rogue extradition operation gone wrong was unsatisfactory and Turkey’s investigation was ongoing.

“To blame such an incident on a handful of security and intelligence members would not satisfy us or the international community,” Erdogan said. “Saudi Arabia has taken an important step by admitting the murder. As of now we expect of them to openly bring to light those responsible – from the highest ranked to the lowest – and to bring them to justice.”

The Saudis performed a BIG breach of diplomacy in order to try and cover for themselves;

Saudi officials refuse Turkish police search at well in Istanbul consulate: Anadolu

Saudi officials have refused to allow Turkish police to search a well in the garden of the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul as part of the investigation into the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Wednesday.

Authorities have previously carried out inspections at the consulate and consul general's residence in Istanbul as part of the investigation. After weeks of denial, Saudi Arabia at the weekend said the journalist had been killed at the consulate.

So, that got the Turks attention so they forced the issue. Guess what they found?

'Jamal Khashoggi body parts found in well in Saudi consul general's home'

Jamal Khashoggi went missing on October 2 after enterring the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

After weeks of sepcualtion, officials have now confirmed the journalist is dead - and now it is believed his body has been discovered as an investigation into his death got underway.

Dogu Perincek, leader of Turkey's Rodina party, claimed in an interview his body parts were discovered in Istanbul during forensic searches.

He claimed the remains had been found in a well the garden of the Saudi consul general’s home.

And a ‘highly placed’ source told Sky News the writer had been “cut up” and his face “disfigured.”

The 57-year-old was last seen entering the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

The news comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the person who ordered the death of the prominent Saudi journalist must “be brought to account.”

He said Turkey would not complete its investigation into Khashoggi’s death until all question were answered.

Fimally the son of the murdered Journalist was sent to meet with Prince MBS yesterday for a photo session to show how sad the Prince is for the Sons loss. Note, the son has been banned from leaving Saudi Arabia. Also I feel the guard with his hand ready to draw his gun lent a friendly non threatening atmosphere to the occasion where a son was forced to meet the man who ordered his father to be dismembered alive.

The point I was getting at was that Canada was right to be concerned and make an issue out of what has been happening to journalists in Saudi Arabia....now there is one dead most likely at the hands of the Saudi prince....sure countries stayed out of it when there should have been red flags all over the place.....dunno
