LeeCharming: Gal....I would wear a shirt...trousers...shoes and socks...nothing would be on display.
And you would have a traditional woman fussing round you to make sure your shirt was tucked in and your hair combed before you left home, just like your mummy used to do when she sent you off to school.
Off you go to play with the grown ups; you're a big boy now.
galrads: I see leisure like this more often today in the office. What happened to ties and scarfs.
Dress attire like the tank top wasn't acceptable in the law office I worked in. Once in awhile a mail clerk would try wearing something like this with sandals but the office manager took her aside and advised that she needed to wear a shirt that covered her and open toe sandals weren't allowed.

I have a dress code for my work place (I work alone and for myself) and not only... I never wear shorts or short skirts unless I am on holiday, no vests and sandals...no baggy clothes or leggings... No combinations of bright colours or even worse ...animal prints (can't stand those)... I don't think I'll be much trusted if dressed like a parrot when saying..."Don't worry, it won't hurt much..."

galrads: I wonder what is wrong with any open toe footwear
It's not professional footwear in a law office. When clients come to the office tank top clothing and open toe sandals showing dirty feet wouldn't give a good impression of the firm.
I didn't have to but I wore a suit everyday and a shoe with a small heel. Before the law office job I was an Executive Secretary at Dun & Bradstreet which is where I learned how to dress professionally.

Most of the women in a lab I managed mostly wore tennis shoes and sometimes wore slightly healed open toe shoes. No big deal. I didn’t cate about dress codes and were were nationally recognized for our performance at iair quality environmental science. I guess there’s a difference in dress between science nerds and legal people. Though The lead male attorney at EPA almost had a ponytail as long as mine.

What your not understanding Gal is customers or the public probably didn't come into the lab. Nobody from the public judged how you dressed.
In a law office clients came into the office to meet with attorneys for depositions or just to discuss their case. If employees dress nicely the client will assume the attorney and the firm will do a good job on their case.
I think women should wear shapeless linen sacs down to the floor and with an elastic just below the chin! Just to make sure that all the male workforce doesn't realise they're women and start immediately fantasizing about their bodies instead of focussing on their work (which probably consists of deciding how they're going to exploit the female form to advertise their business They should also practice walking like penguings in the workplace just in case their femenine strides should evoke some kind if distraction ... ah! And let's not forget your voices women! Women should refrain from using their natural warm voices in case any male at work should fall under their spell!
As for your faces, well if women practice the crossed eyed look together with just not smiling... ever... I think that just about covers it to protect the male workforce from the female's evil seductive ways! Every firm should benefit from these guidelines and profits should sore!

Don't thank me ....
I get your sarcasm but dressing professionally isn't just about keeping men from oogling women. It's about showing respect for the company you work for.

I get what you are saying, SA. I personally do not believe the dress makes the person although a common belief held is that Professional dress increases abstract thinking and gives people a broader perspective. My lab and field personnel often met with public during inspections, testing, complaint resolution and formal meetings to address concerns for pollution issues. Their conduct was professional but I didn’t care if the women wore miniskirts and T-shirts with spiked shoes or jeans or full burkas.

Right and elephants should wear pants?
I prefer the woman on the left ... she’s more relaxed and probably more concerned about getting the job done right instead of how to impress others with her appearance.

Okay, it worked for you and it's working for Apple whose employees dress casual everyday.
I feel better when I dress professionally. Even on casual Friday I wore black jeans and a casual jacket. It's who I am. You can't change my spots
I wasn't dressing that way to impress anyone. Dressing professionally is part of getting along with co-workers, attorneys, the office manager.
Often I would be called into the office on a weekend to do an emergency pleading or something that had to be served to the court on Monday morning. In those times I wore casual clothes but I guarantee you it wasn't a tank top or a mini skirt.
Advice to men…Only talk to women…when the job requires you too…never date a female colleague and don’t ever compliment a woman in the workplace…yes you could get fired and your reputation could be in tatters….no joke Men are working on eggshells…sharing a workplace with women…the time may have come…for work places to separate men and women…metoo mob is so toxic for any company and destroying so many innocent men…it’s a disgrace and it really needs to be eliminated now!!!!!!
