Astranea: A big problems with religions is that some of them are based on a belief that spreading the religion is a good thing and something that God wants. That way religions become invasive. Believers of one religion try to convert believers of another. And everyone is one step away from a conflict.
But by your own admission, some people still need religion in their lives, and it is a force for good, as Rumples says, it is a good way of structuring your life, and family life, which is something I still believe in, would you see us go back to the caves, might not be so good for women.

Structure is a key word. With few exceptions, it’s impossible to navigate— without structure-education, most careers, paying bills, just the mediocre, mundane activities of daily life need structure. Sure, if “ religion” provides that for some, and embracing that religion doesn’t impose on another’s right to independent thought and way of life, heck, go for it. Just don’t try to impose it. (SOME Christians impose by having the attitude of, “ if you don’t do it my way, you’ll be wrong/ go to hell, etc..)

On balance you have to say that religion is worthy of the myth and you have to say that Christianity is the best one. That catholic schools are the only decent schools left in Britain's education system. That the decline of social progress has been enormous since the 1960s.

Well, it's nice to know we can agree on some points, after my rejection of youlaugh

Most of the Christians I know are not trying to impose their religion on anyone, although they deserve respect for their beliefs, they are good people always ready to help.

tomcatty: Getting back to the OP comment, I have absolutely no sympathy with these people at all, if you break the rules you must pay.

If you can't do the time don't do the crime.

They were putting our lives in jeopardy, fine them.
Interesting viewpoint ... how would you feel if you fell in love with a beautiful Muslim woman and she with you ... but ... according to her religion she should be publicly stoned to death for even daring to fall in love with you? dunno

rohaan: ’Morning...good to see you today. I’m pittering away a little time before taking Skedaddle out to the country vet for his “ big” operation. ( finding a surgical vet was a challenge nearby because of Covid) so it’s about 25 miles from here. Part of me feels a little bad, nature and all, it it must be done, so here we go...wish us well. Any thoughts or wisdom about what to expect in the coming days/ weeks following this? Thanx...
OH my, Ro!!

I haven't had a Skedaddle operation in years. I deal in Lassies and Benji's!!

When I had my dog spayed, I had her wearing baby onsies until her stitches came out. Skedaddle's not going to love you for a few days for having his boy parts removed, they were probably a big part of his cleaning procedure!!
He'll do fine, the vet will give you a list of do's and do not's that you'll try to follow but, being a cat, Skedaddle will ignore.... and it's only for about 10 days, thank goodness.

He'll do fine, you'll do fine .... break out the good stuff if need be. Your cat will be so much healthier and safer after the cut and snip. Post pics when he is allowing people to virtually visit!

galrads: And God loves crazy people.
Then they are condemned to each other. Fine with me, don't bother me with it and don't tell me how I have to live my life.

I agree with you my little ray of sunshine the woman who fell in love with me deserves a medal.

The OP's original reference I refer to is.

About the heavy fine awarded to the synagogue of many thousands of pounds for having a large wedding, which is what this thread was about.

Probably. laugh

I never watch videos that people post, click on links of various sites or read long copy/paste texts. I come here to talk to people and want to read their own thoughts and words. smile

PeKaatje: You can't loose what you never had. Religion is for the weak people, people that can't manage to survive on their own.
Have you ever thought what it would be like if nobody believed in God? Answer that question and you might have an answer as to why people go to Church. They want to live a better life and believe in the Bible. Weakness has no meaning here!

I respect others beliefs and normally don't discuss religion but it bothers me why you have to fear anything Religion was created to control the masses and to instill fear of punishment ie:hell and retribution Native Americans are a simple people and "Just Believe" It is not belief without proof but Trust without reservation If you "Just Believe" it's pretty simple It may not happen on your time schedule or your way but it will happen if you "Just Believe" Peace
