Generally truth is good and lie is bad. But in some special circumstances truth and false become slightly different. It is not only true to say anything as it is, but the intention behind it also matters. The intention behind true or false decides what is right and what is wrong, it doesn't matter it is bitter or sweeter. Bitter truth can also be said in a sweet tone, just we should know how to say it.
Truth spoken with the intention of harming someone is worse than a lie. A lie told for one's benefit is better than the truth.
"Truth spoken with the intention of harming someone is worse than a lie. A lie told for one's benefit is better than the truth."
I agree with the first statement, wholeheartedly, and have experienced it personally. The intention really is important. However, I disagree with the latter statement because it seems to mean that it's ok to lie for "one's" personal benefit. If you meant "someone else", then even that presents an issue. After all, you may not always be the best person to decide what's beneficial for another person (regardless of the relationship between you two). So the 'lie' that you tell may cause, rather than solve, a problem.

Just saying
I have a fabricated story: In a forest a hunter is chasing an animal to hunt it. The animal was far ahead of the hunter, that animal passed by me, after sometime the hunter came to me and asked me in which direction my prey had gone? in this situation i will not tell him true, i will misguide him to save that animal.
In this fabricated story, telling truth can kill that animal and telling lie can save that animal's life.

I like your example, and agree with your conclusion. However, not every situation presents a 'clear cut' solution.
funtocome: Only an honest person feels guilt over lying; the truly dishonest feel no guilt.
It depends on to whom the honest person is lying....
You can be sure almost everyone lies at an interview, to their other half, to their kids, parents friends etc etc
Humans have self preservation hardwired into them...lying is part of that self preservation, so there aint no getting away from it, peop;e will lie if they feel even the tiniest bit threatened or insecure...even to someoen they know won't hurt them.e.g their own children....
secretagent09: When you tell someone the truth it shows that you respect them even if the truth could be detrimental to the relationship.
To lie is a betrayal.
A terminally sick patient asking to see his family but none of them want anything to do with him, do you tell him the truth or come up with some comforting lie?

"Today I bent the truth to be kind, and I have no regret, for I am far surer of what is kind than I am of what is true"

My guess is the patient knows how his family feels about him. It's nothing new to him. Yet he wants one last chance to make up for the wrongs he has done to them. Even though his family doesn't like him he still wants to be comforted by people that are family.
I would comfort the patient and tell him that they might be on their way to see him. That would give him hope to hang onto before he dies.
I wouldn't lie. Telling him that they will come would be a lie I couldn't live with.
Truth and lies are part of life. Even Mother-Nature lies. Without both there can be problems in life. What is the meaning of a lie, to show something else and the motive behind it be something else. For example: Insect-eater plants attract insects into false attraction to eat them. Some predatory animals show false attraction to attract their prey. In order to increase the population of a species, nature attracts males and females into each other with false attraction.
Mother-Nature is the biggest liar.
So never expect 100% pure truth from anyone. Mother-Nature could not yet developed such a species which is 100% pure truth.
Life is a mixture of truth and falsehood. This is the bitter truth of life.
But maybe we can feel the pure truth in a newborn baby.
teenameena: sometimes telling the truth makes harder to succceed in something.....
is lie easier than truth?
Sometimes easier, sometimes more difficult when you have to remember what the lie was.
But then the biggest liar is the well-mannered. The biggest and the wisest liar is manners, that poker face and collection of prepared statements that may or may not be true. I had a great time this evening, but did I? There is a difference between manners and respect. You can earn respect and therefore someone might tell you the truth now. You can't earn manners, manners are for anyone you want to make a good impression with. They're lies for people you don't trust that much yet.
