Lately, introductions that I've received seldom exceed three words.

e.g. Hello,
Hi, how are you?
How's your day?
.....
From various locations, and from people with various degrees.

Have I exceeded my word limit? uh oh

Goes to show that kids are not being taught how to be social. But, a one line beats the novel some send too. When I met my guy, he wrote well. Simple and polite. I woke back that I had to unload a truckload of stones. He wrote back, hope you got your rocks off. I wrote back, nice pun son. And we are going on over 12 years now.

I wasn’t aware you had to tell your life story in the first message.
A simple greeting is enough & if the other person responds, then hopefully the conversation will flow .

Ya I agree...of course you should start with hello..but one or two sentences of a conversation piece wouldn't go astray...its just too convenient to just shoot off a bunch of Hellos for men in the hopes one sticks.

I agree. I've had some novelists too on first email.

The last one was from a young lad who more or less gave me his life story, but never said Hello or anything else. uh oh

Who's talking about writing your life story? doh

If I write to someone it's to tell them that something they wrote in their profile attracted my attention.

When I was young, I remember having to write thank you notes to relatives for Christmas presents and birthday presents. If I didn't write the note properly my mom made me do it over again.

It's a lost art and the little boy in me says good riddance laugh

Haha..exactly!
Just hello doesn't start a conversation going.

Take for example when you meet someone in the street, or supermarket...
One says Hello, I say Hello back with a smile then...we both continue on our way.
But, one might comment on something you're wearing, or something you have in your trolley or whatever, then...half an hour later, you're having a great conversation with a total stranger.banana

On a dating site, unfortunately, it's just somebody behind a keyboard who can't be bothered to write a couple of lines commenting on your profile, or whatever

Now, had they read my profile, they would know that I'm not looking for anybody.

Strangely enough, I've just received a two-liner PM from an Irishman.
But...he said something funny which made me reply.

Vive Ireland! Sláinte beer

Men of today are bloody lazy.

Some of them will view your profile in the hope that you will send them a message.
Some of them write in their profile "if you like what you see send me a message."

Men as hunters are thing of the past. devil

I think that's probably true. Those who are legit write a short hello that means nothing when they need to establish a reason for continuing contact and that better be on here--there's no reason to go off this site at that point. The swindlers write a generic long piece about "themselves" never referring to your profile. Never seen a third kind on here.

The art of corresponding, or the act of writing letters to communicate with others, has certainly undergone significant changes in recent years due to the rise of digital communication platforms and instant messaging apps. However, I wouldn't say that it is entirely dead.

While traditional letter writing may not be as prevalent as it once was, there are still people who appreciate and engage in the art of corresponding through handwritten letters and thoughtful messages. In fact, for some individuals, receiving a handwritten letter can be a meaningful and personal experience that stands out in a world saturated with electronic communication.

Moreover, various forms of digital correspondence have emerged that attempt to capture the essence of traditional letter writing. Platforms and apps that focus on long-form writing, such as email, blogging, and even social media platforms like Tumblr, provide opportunities for individuals to express themselves more thoughtfully and engage in deeper conversations.

Additionally, there are still instances where formal or professional correspondence requires a more polished and well-crafted approach, such as business letters, academic communications, or official documents.

So, while the landscape of communication has evolved, and traditional letter writing may not be as commonplace as it once was, the art of corresponding has not entirely disappeared. It has adapted to modern times and continues to exist in various forms, both offline and online.

I agree, but those are very rare.
As soon as you agree to chat on the apps, the writing disappears completely and is replaced by short sentences in monosillables, accompanied by many pics of their house, pets etc...

Anyway, I don't really care and I choose to spend my time in more constructive conversations.

Words mean nothing on profiles .
Whereas a picture paints a thousand words … which btw , is absent in your profile.
