We must remember that ignorance is not the same as stupidity. And we are all ignorant of many things ... Americans, Europeans, Asians, everyone. I think we should acknowledge that perhaps we are indeed ignorant of much of what happens in the rest of the world, of much of the world's history, and of its people. And we shouldn't stop there. We should endeavor to learn, to experience, to understand. Only then can we really hold our heads up high as citizens of the world. This is indeed an international forum and maybe we CAN learn a bit from this. And I would ask our international posters to consider a little less of the gang-bang approach when you have an issue with us. I know of no other country that is represented here that gets beat up on as much as we do, en masse, and it is tiresome and bullying. We can take it, we always do, but is it really the way to get your messages through to our thick skulls? Teach us, and hopefully we'll listen and learn. Bully and insult and kick us and we will bite and kick and scratch. Wouldn't you do the same?
I agree entirely with your post, I am very very fortunate, I have travelled all over Europe including Eastern Europe and Russia, I have lived and worked in Canada and America and I was born in Africa, in Kenya.
When I was in the US I loved every minute I was there, I loved your work ethic, your lifestyle and the people, I admire completely your loyalty and pride in your country, something sadly lacking in England, did you know we are not allowed to fly the Union flag in certain cities her in England, in case it causes offence, imagine if you were not allowed to fly the S&S banner. We have many things wrong here in Europe, and yes we do get to see far more of the problems our European cousins face than you will in the States, so I guess we take it for granted that you as Americans understand as much about our world as we do about yours.
We have all I think learnt from our discussion tonight.
There is a lot of crap that America has done and yes we should admit it. Yet there has been a hell of a lot of good done bye the average Joe on the street and really that is who makes up this country. The one who didn't want to tuck it's tail between it's legs after 9 11. The war in Iraq is a mess admittedly and a lot of people have lost their lives from all over the globe. When we all think that we have arrived it seems that the barbarism that makes up every tribe on this planet rears up its ugly head. That part of us that has not quit being primates and just reacts. I am tired of American bashing. I came on these threads to dialogue with people from all over the planet to learn and to encourage not to defend my country here but I will again I reiterate every country on earth has done crap they are made up of humans. Unfortunately I know for me and probably other Americans, admittedly with our heads up our butts, it took 9 11 to wake up us to realize how hated we were as Americans. Yet its still the best place to live. JMO. Come visit and we will treat you with kindness and respect there is no need to be afraid of us and when our government gets out of line we correct it. Checks and balances and our constitution set up many years ago in a reaction to tyranny.
Well then I'm gonna petition Russia on our behalf to invade and take our lands back cause I don't feel that was very democratic stealing all our lands and I we don't get a fair shake even today...much like Sadams people didn't either....

jlw45: no...i did'nt give one....go have some worcestershire sause
But why not, you made a statement and I just asked for some background info on that, or maybe its because American History does not go back as far as the UK's, that the UK is one of the most multi-cultural in the world and has been since before the first Europeans landed in your fair land.
And maybe because most of your heritage originated outside of America
Did you know that America is the largest user of Worcestershire sauce outside of the UK
