"Travel broadens the mind" - it is so true, it opens your eyes to a different culture, religion, language, food, way of life.

Can make you thankful for what you have got, good education, health, welfare, opportunities in life??? Something they can't teach you in a class room - you have to go out there, grab life and give it a good shake!

If you never, never go - then you'll never, never know? australia thumbs up

That's great to hear. You can do this with money, time, and a passport with visas.

Or you can do it through cyberspace.... a bit cheaper, but just not the same sort of experiences.....

My wife and I took the kids (10 & 9) over to Europe for 3 months. We were worried about the education that they would miss out on during the time and asked the school what work they could provide so they wouldn't fall behind.

They said "Nothing. The experiences they will have will be more than enough education for them. All we ask is that they tell their schoolmates of their experiences."

I have travelled a fair amount myself throughout Australia (and still have lots of places to go) and always learning more things about the places. When you see how some people manage hardships in their lives and their environment today, and even going out there to see what people have done in the past, it does open your eyes.

I have not travelled through Asia or Africa but have heard many tales by friends who have over the years. Some have done the "tours" while some have experienced the countries. Interesting tales.

So Newbie, "Travel broadens the mind" is something I have learnt through life.

Yeah, so I've been immersing myself in Moroccan culture and history of late, sooo interesting conversing

Not sure how I'm gonna approach the trip when the time comes, whether to head north then travel through Asia and parts of Europe, skip over there from Spain, or ..

Most likely daydream fly straight to East Africa, stop a while in Zanzibar, maybe Dar es Salaam, do a couple safaris then charter flights up to the north-west..

Soooo, in the meantime, I've been armchair travelling through Northern India, Kashmir, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan wow

Phew, that was tiring uh oh lol, but incredibly fascinating and have only just dipped my toes in hmmm

So at present, I'm in Tibet, gonna be here a while, sooo much to learn and get my head around ...

Was talking today with my brother's sister today (okay, there are some serious realtionship issues in our family) but......

Okay, it was to do with some very serious problems within the very extended family.

But we did have some nice chat about our travelling over the years. Was bit more about our experiences in Italy and what we would like to see.

I have been one to set myself a "Plan" for what I would like to do. Okay, I may never manage to do all of this plan (someone else managed to pinch this concept and called it "The Bucket List" and made $millions WTF) frustrated crying dunno

Had a mate many years ago when we were both going through the separation/divorce issues. He would often comment on me having "plans/goals." He had none at that stage.

Then I told him that I had plans, not alway achievable, but something to aim for. He did go with having "The Plan." His was to get his teeth fixed and it did improve his life.

Plans are in the making for a decent 4 week trip through the Simpson Desert next year. One of our Edjit group is doing all the planning and Permits, another Edjit looks like taking a much longer break (6 months?), while I am looking at retiring from full-time work and doing the longish trip as well especially if I get the vehicle I want.banana banana So many places out there still to see.

Or maybe just blow the kids' inheritance and travel overseas.rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
