Masks…

a plural personas [New Latin, from Latin] : an individual's social facade or front that especially in the analytic psychology of C. G. Jung reflects the role in life the individual is playing — compare anima b : the personality that a person (as an actor or politician) projects in public :

---

Bemasked I walk thru the world,
A stranger among my brothers and sisters,
Yearning to reveal myself,
Yet terrified to do so,
Lest I be rejected and cast away in exile…

Of book-learning and psychotherapy, there’s no dearth,
Yet, the pain and hunger and self-inflicted exile persists,
No balm of Gilead seems to lessen the mind-numbing ache,
Freud and Jung would be pulling their hair out…

And, so, we continue to walk thru the plain of desolation,
Our only companions on the journey, being other injured anthropoids,
Ever hoping, we wonder,
Whether we will ever stumble upon that elusive Shangri-La,
Or will we forever evade it?

Hi, Earlgreytea,
Whether protected by personas or anima, we walk, in search of self and other, waiting to become that Veleteen Rabbit, made real by love. According to the Skin Horse, "It doesn't happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Fascinating,'in pain' write. The bewilderment of separation is hauntingly expressed. We are masked from ourselves due to separtion from the Source; we don't know what or who we are, which is of course, infinitely divine and powerful beings, co creators redy at last to create something decent.
We will get back and are gradually doing so. Do not despair, friend as home is in sight.
Om Shanti, shanti, shanti.....
Om Gam Namapataya namaha.....

Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone who smiles without a mask?
What's behind the words--images they know will please us?
I'll take what's real. Bring up the lights.
--Queensryche

that's what you brought to mind, EarlGrey, from the constant jukebox playing in my head. and i could have cried while reading this, but i chose not to, because you're right, and shangri-la cannot be evaded forever.

wonderful piece of work, sir, thank you for sharing it.
