Quite comfortably numb

Ah you beautiful amber liquid
You're a pal to my soul
You take away, what can I say
This memory of pain
My head it spins, quite numb I think
I think this feeling's bliss
What was this pain I'm thinking of
My mind is not quite clear
You're a drunk they say
I laugh at them, haaa! haaa!
I'll drink to that, another one
Keep filling up my glass
And soon, I know, all pain will pass
And dreams will fade away
There I'll be where I want to be
Quite comfortably numb

About this poem:
I must admit that when my life fell apart there were times when the idea of swimming to the bottom of a bottle held a certain appeal but something, whether you want to call it God, the Great Spiritual Being or whatever, stopped me just short of it. I don't judge those that do find solace at the bottom of a bottle, as a matter of fact I can understand and deeply feel their pain and suffering.

I'm nodding that I see you, although I am at home...pain comes, then usually goes. but hopelessness and futility fuel the mindset that there is little that can be done to relieve one's pain and fear. nice write steve...

I don't have a drinking problem. I drink - get drunk - fall down - no problem

I don't know how it feels like to be drunk or even slightly under the numbing comfort of alcohol but reading your poem helped be understand (finally) what the song "red red wine" was all about... Enjoyable read!!!!

Been there Steve and although I usually don't drink much I have
sometimes found solace in the "amber liquid" mainly to clear my mind and get a good night's sleep. People can end up relying on it if not carefull just like anything else that gives temporary relief. You have described the process and devil may care attitude quite well.....I'm guessing. innocent angel peace cool
