Carnival

The sun beats down on city streets
A haze of heat lays over
Concrete beast it barely stirs
It is too much lethargic

On setting sun the beast it stirs
Awakening, reviving
People throng the streets around
And gaily are they costumed

Music starts from here and there
And in the air it mixes
Calypso band and jazz combine
And rock n' roll then join them

Parade of floats come passing by
With Sinbad and his sailors
Fairies, dragons, princess' and elves
And so many others beside them

The floats pass by for about an hour
Oh what a mixture of things to see
The crowd shouts in their excitement
The carnival is here
