The Mask

The Mask

Many wear a mask made of grins that lies
To hide their true face, this each denies
Amassing a debt of horrid human guile
Hidden behind the mask with that smile
Pay no heed to them for each soon dies

We wait for the day the world will do otherwise
Stop accounting for all the tears and sighs
Remember this when you see them while
Wearing that mask with the lying smile

Oh Lord hearken not to their mournful cries
From these tortured souls as they arise
Yours sing, but you know the clay is vile
Allow us to dream otherwise awhile
Not taken in by the mask of beguiling lies
