The road appeared different today Perhaps it was the grey dank sky That bled desolation That made it look As if misery had overtaken it
Scattered boxes, riotous revelry mementos Lay discarded, abandoned by humanity (Or some may say inhumanity) And brightly coloured lids, when asked Mostly replied, “Ham Cheese and Pineapple”
Fresh holes, those pock marked decaying scars Seeming devoid of any compassion What scurrying animals had left In a flurry of desperation, but unknown to them Would never let them escape their misery
And the trees, as if with wanton need Had shed their belongings Retreating, seeking another guise As if desperation, always looked better When barren and naked
The road looked different today As if misery had strolled on by And left that odour of hopelessness Maybe I should not have walked that way But it was my only path

Feel miserable and write poetry!!! I love your poem, but, please stop being miserable, just write poems.

I love my paths to nowhere Rob but must admit these days or maybe all my days I have worn the rose coloured spectacles, I will post you a set I liked your poem though it tells the truth

Hi Rob...in a strange way, your poem reminded me of one we had to learn for our poetry finals....that was about pioneers, who went to the promised land, carried the belongings they took, because they meant so much...were gradually discarded, when famine and thirst visited after walking miles along dirt tracks. Great write.....the sadness and atmosphere, you captured to perfection.....Kathy

Hey Rob..I think you may be on to something here. With your extraordinary style you may be the only one qualified to explore the debths of misery that heretofore has escaped 20th century thought. But seriously..this poem was most unique. I can only imagine what a 300 page book of this type of writing would look like.
Or you could turn around and walk back... Just kidding Rob...like everyone has said...you string words together and create a timeless tapestry, one so beautiful whether you're feeling triumphant or a miserable git...love it, enjoyed it!

Hi Rob,
A very accomplished write even if the subject is a little dour. Somehow it reminded me of Robert Frost but without his rationalising optimism.
Hi trurorob, You don't know me and I don't know you but... I enjoyed reading the verses what you wrote. I get the impression as if I were reading a small piece of a big and beautiful novel. A novel about someone so special. With a special sensitivity in his heart too.
very nice rob....seems there's room in the direction and atmosphere of this ditty for an extended far ranging version. it's the end of the world as we know it.

wow! great, emotive, and thought-provoking write!!!
Hi, turorob, The road looked different today As if misery had strolled on by... In spite of these moments, we humans manage to find something within ourselves (and through love and support of others) that allows us to continue to travel our only path. Springtime moments beckon.

Wow Trurorob, this really spun my head around and gave me plenty to digest. All is a good way. The way you endng this piece was something I hadn't counted on. So many interesting comments and I have my lasting impression to linger on my poetic taste buds. Something clearly amazing about this level of misery!~ I agree, brillant write. Thanks for sharing. Delighted and inspired. Celtic!~
You have painted quite a picture for someone to see with this lovly descriptive write. And the title so aptly fitting the road to nowhere. Some are happy being a miserable ol git.My daddy never had a good day in his life. And he always seemed right proud of it. I find often the feeling of misery is a choice. I can't do it for long But bless your heart if you enjoy it then go for it It sure does make the pen in hand (so to speak) write a beautiful piece of work
