Love Is Not Always What We Wish It Might Be

She phoned me this morning,
the one true love of my life.
We still speak often to reminisce
about those wonderful days we shared.
Happiness was plentiful then,
money wasn't so important.
Forty-five five years
where has the time gone?
She wanted to gather memories
of trips to foreign lands.
I wanted to go on picnics
by a nearby lake.
She still has caviar tastes
on a catfish income.
I can now afford the caviar,
but still prefer catfish.
She was, and still likes to be
the centre of attention,
the life of the party.
I'm satisfied with watching deer pass by
and watching fish leap for shad-flies.
She's not happy with the man she's with,
but lives in seperate rooms with him.
He treats her like a queen,
she expects that every day.
Without reciprocating
I live alone
and don't expect that will change,
though I wish it would.
For forty-five years
we have called one another on our birthdays,
never missing even one.
The love we shared in our youth
is still there,
but being satisfied with voyages and stuff
never changed for her.
I'm content with what I have
and don't need a trip to take a photo
of somewhere I can find in a book.
So the phone calls will continue,
and our love will always be,
until death ends our conversation.

I'll be calling you next month.
You'll be turning 71.

Your Forever and Always
LOVE

About this poem:
True love never dies.
It just gets mixed up with life
and how you live it.

This is very lovely Snowytop, very sad and very well written I liked the feelings portrayed in the lines. Love if true is never forgotten.
