The 19th of October

Wood sheds its dress of crimson red,
Frost coats with silver withered fields,
Day shows its face as if against its will
And hides itself behind a hillside edge.
You, fire ablaze, in my secluded cell,
And you, oh wine, a friend of autumn cold,
Pour into soul sweet poison of all days
For brief oblivion of bitter thoughts.

I am so sad, no friend sits by my side,
With whom I’ll wash long parting down,
Whose hand I’ll shake with hearty laugh,
Whom I could wish so many years to last.
I drink alone; in vain imagination mine
Calls out for friends to come for brief respite;
No sound of their approach, familiar strides,
No longer is my soul in wait for dearest one.

About this poem:
Alexander Pushkin wrote this poem when living in exile on the 19th of October – the day when his former lyceum friends marked the anniversary of graduation, in appreciation of their cordial friendship. I have translated only two stanzas of a long poem, dedicated to friendship.

ON CHRISTMAS EVE

On Christmas Eve I wish you, dear friends,
In joy you are so sad - in sadness merry,
So far on distant continents and lands,
You are so close to me - I wish I had you near.

Heart hardly can contain the love I carry,
To each and every one I stretch my hand
And wish God's grace upon you, wish you plenty!

Believe my words, we have no other way:
This corner is a chance, there aren't so many.
The one for all and all for one to burden take,
You are so close to me - I wish I had you near.

life in Nilo!

Nikki and Kira, girls of their era

living life to the full, going out on the pull,

they don't cow tow to peer presure,

they don't care what they all say,

living for tomorrow,

for tomorrow is another day.

Going out, havin fun,

sleep all day, forget the sun,

Get up late , whats the date?

who cares!

for tomorrow is another day.

The girls come in to say hello,

we say sit down! have some blow!

Relax! Chill! Chew the fat!

Life's like this! It's not all that,

stay awake, get out of bed,

If life's all work your already dead,

we all sit down and have a jam.

with our favourite rasta man, paint my face the girls say!

For tomorrow is another day.

The clock is stopped It's Nilo time,

to go home now would be a crime,

stay out all night ! we all say,

for tomorrow is another day.

Incense burning, candles alight,

the music's low, let's get it right,

roaches in the pantry, munchies on the bar,

Matte's nice and hot, you've gone too far,

the flat fills up as people go by,

let's stay in and all get high,

we can't go out the moneys spent,

should have stayed home and paid the rent,

why worry ? I hear you say,

for tomorrow is another day.

It's getting late, time for bed,

the sun is rising , the sky is red,

too tired for work, too tired to play,

never mind! I hear you say,

for tomorrow is another day.

Wake up late , clean the flat,

found out It's bigger than that,

later relax, chill with the cat,

went looking for work and found play,

Well tomorrow is another day!

Existence

We are children of existence, that's what we are, we were born to be unique, never to be the same, we're here for the game, the good, the bad, and the oblique, we're not for love, we're not for fame, we are not for anything, there's no one to blame, it's all to learn, to grow and be, and to create tomorrow
what will be,,,,,,,,,,,,,well,,,,we will see.
Hopefully.

Hope springs eternal!

So, we are here today, where were we yesterday? Before we were born where were we? Cultivated in our mothers tummy!,,, So, where were we before the "act" we cant remember thats a fact, and where will we be when we cant see, back to the start? Hear the beat of our mothers heart? Then start again, a new creation? (lets hope we build a better nation)

How do you see it?

Life changes you from the start, it opens your mind and closes your heart, you start out with love, innocent and true, then life, slowly eradicates you, you become aware, of whats right and what's fair, you want to be there, and you really care, then, you get confused, when you have been used, so now you retract, its the ultimate act, it leaves you lost,, life is not free, it has a cost, so, now do you see?. ,, no one loves you more than me.

You too

What does hurt feel like?, being lost in emotional pain?, break your arm,, is it the same? or feeling a total emotional loss?, A whole body pain, a mind pain, let the worlds collide and in the end, you dont mind? Yes,,, let it be,,, let us see,, dont worry,,, life is and always will be, what you see, so. never be sorry! Live and love, and be you,, and in the end, you will find, you were always you too! xx

Love Takes A Little More

You supply the lips and I'll supply the kiss,
You supply the chance and I'll supply the bliss.
You supply the truth and I'll supply the trust,
You supply the time and I'll supply the lust.

But if it's love you want, it's gonna take a little more,
and when we finally get there, it'll be like waves hitting the shore,
of the oceans of our hearts, the feeling lingers on,
from the touch of evening twilight, 'til the early morning dawn.

You supply the fantasy and I'll supply the act,
You supply the opinion and I'll supply the fact.
You supply the quip and I'll supply the smile,
You supply the road and I'll supply that extra mile.

But if it's love you want, it's gonna take a little more,
and when we finally get there, it'll be like waves hitting the shore,
of the oceans of our hearts, the feeling lingers on,
from the touch of evening twilight, 'til the early morning dawn.

You supply the wings and I'll supply the flight,
You supply the day and I'll supply the night.
You supply the ground below and I'll supply the sky above,
You supply your tender heart and I'll supply my endless love.

Because even though love takes more, I shall not stand and wait,
for love to sweep me off my feet, for I might be too late.
So, I've now become a partner of fate,
in the never-ending waterfall known as love and hate.

SIMPLE JOYS.

At a time of caring, remember those
Who struggle with basics, that pose
Problems of survival, day after day
For treats and luxuries, unable to pay

Their hope is to be, warm and fed
Unseen problem, cause worry-dread
If it happens often, they go to ground
Rarely help is offered, no joy is found

For some it's constant, as daily life sends
A constant survival battle, without a friend
To share the bad times, when they need support
Not always Simple Joys, can with money be bought

Céad Míle Fáilte ! (Sonnet)

( A hundred thousand welcomes.)

A calling to our land of em'rald green,
I offer from the shores my open hand,
Sweet lady of fine verse I rate you Queen,
From forlorn eyes my tears doth stain the sand.

Oh! Come and bless our castles with your grace,
A love so strong as stoney fortress wall,
I long to see the wonder on your face,
As deeper in thine eyes my heart will fall.

And we could dance a céilí in the eve',
Our feet to float like shamrock on the pond,
I from your English kiss ne'er seek reprieve,
To fall in Gaelic love we would abscond.

At rainbows end a gift, as folklore told,
In Irish arms at last, my crock of gold !

About this poem:
An Irish invitation to an English lady.

I know from your posts dear that you
yearn to get away for a while....
So just for the craic come over to visit
your auld poet buddy and I'll help you
trace your Irish ancestry.
Don't mind the poem dear, that's just
the type of romantic Irish clown I can be.
You'd be very safe with Mick.
