Beyond that, anyone lucky enough to make that capital gain, profit threshold, while so many are loosing, can afford to pay the tax.

Gee I don't think my 90 year old grandmother can afford the cash if she were to sell her 300 acre farm (primary residence) 1.5 mil value. Was valued at 20k when she inherited it. And dang sure none of her children have the cash to pay the tax when she dies. Yeah 2.8% sounds cheap but tack that extra onto the capital gains gonna have to pay also.

Point being when you already pay capital gains on something why punish even more with a sales tax on top of that. Most people are already taxed to death but heck you liberals don't care. It's not your money.

How do you figure I'm inheriting anything. Not how it works. Her children inherit it I get squat. Doesn't matter what they are an extra tax on top of another one because you have it does not make it fair for those that will get stuck with it.
I think people are entitled to whatever their parent;s are able to pass on to them be is a broken radio flyer wagon or 10 billion dollars. They worked for it and it's not your nor my nor anyone Else's place to say they don;t deserve to keep it because some poor schmuck decided they should have it before the ones that do have it.
What entitles anyone to get money or services for free?

Now I know why your other thread got locked. The post I was looking for is gone - I knew it had been reported - but didn't know the reason for the thread being locked. Basically, you said the GOP was a pile of sh--. I believe above that quote you had an image.
So I found a different quote of yours instead: "Why? Because I beleive GOP is STUPID? Democrats have caused fabulous benefits for the whole country and numbers of their positive contribution to America out challanges the entire GOP stuff several times! America with out GOP will become what America was created to be and GOP is just dammaging american interests and making America looking mad" (In response to my post re: your cluelessness on the situation/life in America)
P.S.Even though I'm not a Democrat, I sure wouldn't mind if they had "caused fabulous benefits for the whole country"... I'm open to real answers and things that truly work. But I sure don't see what you see... and I live here.

i know lots of wealthy parents who expect there children to work and succeed just like they did, not from special privilege but from work ethic and ability. we pay taxes to preserve and protect our country, not the local country club. we have progressive taxes to promote industry, entrepreneurship, and competition. we avoid regressive taxes to prevent sloth, corruption, and conspicuous consumption.

A tax on top of another tax is punishment. It's not progressive at all it's regressive. Yeah it might be small in the bigger picture but it's still a punishment for succeeding.

I don't know the details of most of our taxes, but here's some info:
This article is about Capital gains tax in the United States. For other countries, see Capital gains tax.
Taxation in the United States Income tax · Payroll tax Alternative Minimum Tax Estate tax · Excise tax Gift tax · Corporate tax Capital gains tax State and local taxation State income tax State tax levels Sales tax · Use tax Property tax Land value tax
In the United States, individuals and corporations pay income tax on the net total of all their capital gains just as they do on other sorts of income. Capital gains are generally taxed at a preferential rate in comparison to ordinary income (26 U.S.C. §1(h)). This is intended to provide incentives for investors to make capital investments, to fund entrepreneurial activity, and to compensate for the effect of inflation and the corporate income tax. The amount an investor is taxed depends on both his or her tax bracket, and the amount of time the investment was held before being sold. Short-term capital gains are taxed at the investor's ordinary income tax rate, and are defined as investments held for a year or less before being sold. Long-term capital gains, which apply to assets held for more than one year, are taxed at a lower rate than short-term gains. In 2003, this rate was reduced to 15%, and to 5% for individuals in the lowest two income tax brackets. The reduced 15% tax rate on qualified dividends and long term capital gains, previously scheduled to expire in 2008, was extended through 2010 as a result of the Tax Reconciliation Act signed into law by President George W. Bush on May 17, 2006. This was extended through 2012 in legislation passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama on Dec 17, 2010. As a result:
* In 2008–2012, the tax rate on qualified dividends and long term capital gains is 0% for those in the 10% and 15% income tax brackets.
The United States is unlike other countries in that its citizens are subject to U.S. tax regardless of where in the world they reside. U.S. citizens therefore find it difficult to take advantage of personal tax havens. U.S. law requires reporting of income from those accounts and failure to do so constitutes tax evasion.
(Partial) History of capital gains tax in the U.S.
The Tax Reform Act of 1986 repealed the exclusion of long-term gains, raising the maximum rate to 28 percent (33 percent for taxpayers subject to phaseouts). When the top ordinary tax rates were increased by the 1990 and 1993 budget acts, an alternative tax rate of 28 percent was provided. Effective tax rates exceeded 28 percent for many high-income taxpayers, however, because of interactions with other tax provisions. The new lower rates for 18-month and five-year assets were adopted in 1997 with the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. In 2001, President George W. Bush signed the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, into law as part of a $1.35 trillion tax cut program.

ty- i was just looking at the tax rate tables!- its beneficial to keep a lot of business taxes and capital gains as low as possible.
with a good accountant and estate planning a lot of people can avoid the bite of capital gains - my reason for asking tractor.
also a large number of rich and super rich in U.S. dont pay taxes (remember the Helmsley's?) thats only for the lower class.
then theres the Swiss and Cayman Islands bank accounts. oh yeah the Caymans are a playground for the rich because of the special shade of blue in the water.
you always hear the sad story of the hard working man who cant pay for little johnnies operation or the rugged pioneer whose a self made millionaire and now the taxes are going to ruin him.
the truth is its usually the bernie madoff slime ball whose ticked because paying off the crooked congressmen didnt work.

Since we are talking money, capitol gains and taxes.....enough to give everyone a head ache.
A couple of news articles....to give all more headaches
The House is ready to pass a $639b DoD budget. This is up from Onama's $610b request by 29b. Dang I like writing billions with the small b....looks better that my check book with those single digits.
Six REP Senator sent Harry Reid a letter. I always like this American polite form of political criticism. Then they release the issue in the critical letter to the media. Why not just corner him in the Senate and do the etu Brute' on him?
Anyways, last week the Senate DEM completed their budget. But have not released it. Harry is holding it incognito, afraid to let the public see it. Likely it has more earmarks for cowboy poetry contests in Las Vegas in it. So the 6 REP Senators wrote him a letter asking for it to be made public. So they can get it to thru committee and to the floor for votes.
My thinking is that Harry is holding it...to see the outcome of the Debt limit battle. If Obama can push the Debt limit up, he can quickly turn around the add more b's to it. So REP are pressing to get it made public before the debt level battle is over with.
Ah the games we play.........
Finally to the debt limit battle. Obama has put the Social Security and Medicare on the table. John Boehner had to fall off the table when these DEM sacred cows came up for slashing. But Obama can also see the hand writing on the wall. With REP in control of the House, they can slash both without him. He needs that DoD budget. Knows that the REP could have tagged the Medicare and Social Security bill to the DoD bill.
So he goes ahead and places them on the table. Again is my thinking.
So?
They are getting close to a debt ceiling limit agreement, I think. They are still playing for political position on somethings. But the August deadline looms up for both of them. Obama does not want to put the REP in a position to close his government before the 2012. He sees what is happening in MN. Were things are not pretty with the state shut down.
On the other hand. Most of the smelly REP would love to close his government down before the 2012. Just so they have a political attack add...that says...."the failed Obama Government".
They may save that for next year.....because with this annual budget bill passing....we get to do most of this again next summer.
Syria is not happy with us. RATZ, I am crying here.
The US Syrian Ambassador went unannounced to the rebelling city of Hama in the north. Here they have been getting 300,000 out in protest. And taking heavy casualities for hitting the streets against Assad. 18 were killed last week.
The US Ambassador decides or was ordered from Washington....this is still unknown...... to make a trip there. Either way it is a good move. The Syrian protestors have had little to cheer them on.
He went to a hospital were the wounded are being treated, met with the protest leaders, and did street walks to talk to the people. All this got the US as being the "international consprirator' label from Syria. Like I said....I am crying here.
The question that need to be asked. Is what was Washington's message to the protest leaders? To continue the good fight against Assad? Or to step down? In the next couple of weeks we will likely know.
If protests in Hama thin or end. Sure as shootin, they were asked to step down. Or if they increase and press again, Washington gave them the green light. So time will tell.
Does that make us international consprirators with protesters? Dang, I am still crying here.
Syria has trouble with the UN at present. This over the Israeli bombed out nuclear reactor. The UN still wants answers to how this building in the middle of the Syria outback became a reactor. Who was aiding Syria to build it? Those sorts of questions.
I always thought this was one of the best bombing jobs in modern time. The Israeli hit the build with just enough HE to take the roof off. So satellite imagery could peer down into the reactor core and the world could see what it was. It was a very well planned mission.
Yep it had to be quiet night for the reactor's janitors. One moment they has a containment roof over head. After some big booms. They are looking at the stars.
