Tatum O'Neal was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine, powder cocaine and a clean crack pipe. She has had a history of drug abuse (heroin) and went through rehab.
Do you feel sorry for her? Do you think she is a pathetic rich girl that needs to grow up? What are your thoughts?

I have mixed feelings. Addiction is terrible, but she is 44 years old with 3 kids (who have been taken away from her custody) and it is time she grew up and have some priorities in her life way above drugs.

I hear ya...unfortunatley the party lifestyle of sooooo many stars gets totally out of control with them earning sooooo much money so young and these types of drugs becoming almost posh among them....I'm sure at some point they eventually reach the point of no return....I agree when she chose to have children...then would have been the time to get her addictions under control...that was a selfish move and now she has 3 children caught up in her habit!!!!!!!!!!
mbcasey: I think I heard she was abused physically in her life Tina. She was also abandone" by her father Ryan, and her mom had questionable friends and had drug problems of her own.
How tragic Ken. I'm not condoning that each time we have problem we turn to drugs.
But we all deal with things differently. When people are treated as tatum has been I don't believe they have dealt with any of their problems maybe the drugs give them the feeling of peace they are seeking.
There are so many ways of looking at these situations.

So true. I think people (including myself) might not give her as much sympathy because she has resources to get help...most addicts do not have that advantage. But your point about how complicated the situation is for anyone addicted is well put.
Regardless of what we might think it can't be a easy life when you're a star at 10 years old.
Sure you have wealth and fame but how many 10 year olds do you personally know that can handle that kind of life? I don't think she ever had a chance to really grow up and have a normal (or normal as we know it) childhood. so yeah, I feel bad for her in a few ways..
With her money, connections, family and friends and so on for support.......not one bit of sympathy from me. She has every opportunity layed out in front of her for a happy and successful life and she chooses to use drugs? Give me a break.

I think its easy for people without the drug addiction to sit there and cast judgement.

dcj22: She's been in and out of rehab. She has children. If she weren't so selfish, I think she would try harder. So yes.
I agree she's behaving irrresponsibly, but I don't see anything positive being accomplished by throwing her in jail; also, I see her drug use as rightfully her decision to make rather than some government bureaucrat's.
mastic55: That was sad with Madam DC..I got to honest when it came down I said good for her she might not even go to jail,,,than when I heard she hung herself,I said the poor woman had no were to turn, really sad, I'm sorry I prejudge..
I dont beleive she hung herself.......I assume she was "silenced" and so does her family and friends. I am sure the truth will come out little by little but for sure.
Her so called black book .......where is it? Who has it? Which known politicians were amoung her clients? How a woman like here ever would do suicide when her true reasons a bout start talking was becoming wealthy?
But sure........In a conservative society......peole want to Forget as soon as possible unfortunatily

I think she helped Tatum O'Neal purchase crack.....and felt guilty.
(DUDE....it's about Tatum, I think?) I could be wrong.

She wrote a suicide note that was in her handwriting....I think at first her family felt that she could have ben murdered BUT she also made the statement that she would rather die than go to jail...So I think after her sentencing...that's exactly what she did...

I'd probably opt to do the same. I don't care for cramped quarters... JMO
Claayer: I feel sorry for ANYONE with addictions.. regardless of what they do and don't have.
I agree.
The ONLY person that can help Tatum O'Neal is Tatum O'Neal. Maybe this time is her "rock bottom" and she will realize she needs help. You cannot force "rehab" or help on a person. The addicted person first needs to admit they have a problem and ASK for the help they need.
