It does seem to fly in the face of the so called separation of church and state. I can't remember a presidential candidate, who during a campaign didn't put his religious credentials on parade. I think it would be a refreshing change for a candidate to come right out and say he's a non believer. Of course that would cost him the vote of every evangelical voter even if he was running against Atilla the Hun.

Dude is an Atheist, look where he is at now.
It's not exactly an Atheist thing, but rather someone with moral values. I voted no because I don't trust anyone who does not believe in a higher power. They don't realize the implications they have on Society.

There was a time when it was a common belief that a Catholic, a Jew, or an African American would never be elected to the highest office in the land. At least 2 out of 3 of those axioms have fallen by the wayside (I'm not sure if there was ever a Jewish president. I'm also not sure if there ever was a president elected who did not believe at least publicly in a supreme being)

An Atheist would be les likely to use Christian beliefs to help start wars with Muslims, and an Atheist would be less likely to play favorites with certain religions.

.....i do not vote.....have never voted......but if i did vote- sure.......he would be far better than a christian or jew who thinks that he can go to church or temple and all his transgressions against the world will be forgiven.....an aithiest or agnostic is more aware of ethics, morality, and obligations as a mere dna creature......

Our Prime Minister is an Atheist then so am I but that doesn't mean I like her as our Prime Minister. Wheather Christian or Atheist who care's I don't shouldn't matter what they are as long as they run the country right so far not good results either way
