I think the Chicago public school teachers should serve duty protecting our embassies.
And, as much as they make in seven months, they should be protecting seal teams 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7...
I am going to somewhat disagree with those that are saying get out, get out, get out of the middle eastern countries. Bring them home bring them home bring them home.
I think we should redeploy regionally. Yes, get them out. But we keep such a large force offshore and in safe islands area of the Med and Indian Ocean....that they know we can come back.
The Marines are already set up to do this with their amphibious landing ship like the WASP class. We have 31 of these and more coming. The Navy has 30 some predisposition ships that carry the big stuff. They can keep 1/2 of a division in these monsters and it like the guys are sailing the med on 3 month cruise. It is good duty and lot safer than being deployed in country.
The Army is a little different they need forward island base deployment points. But same concept. It is easy duty with palm trees, beaches and waves crashing ashore.
So why stay in the region? It will cost us treasury. It cost us treasury when 911 happened. With forward deployment of man power....we have already been doing forward deployment of big military weapons. We can get to a needed hot spot in a week or less. With a major force.
They will not like it. They will consider it a invasion. American are yada yada yada again in the middle east. But what you are seeing in Egypt, Sudan, Libya, and other countries are major Jhadist movements. If they become nationalistic, militaristic or begin to support major terrorist groups. I want to fight them there. Not in Europe. Not in mid Africa. Not on the border of India. I want be in their back yard again. Forward deployment allows us to do that. And to do it fast.
Forward deployment also requires us to have a Navy and to control the skies. It means we have to be able to fight two wars.
But forward deployment does not mean they see a US Marine or Army uniform on every street corner in a capitol city. Forward deployment should get us some separation of Islam from our military to allow things to cool down.
Obama sent 50 Marine into Libya and Egypt. Call FAST teams. But there are are around 3m tourist and American business interests in the middle east and North Africa region. We have a obligation to these Americans that live and travel outside of the country to protect them. What happens if America hotel resort complex of 5000 people is in a Jhadist mob situation? A 50 man response team is not enough. You might have to control a major part of the city. Not for a length of time, but for a week or two to get those 5000 out safely.
