I have hair so long, when I'm sitting down my granddaughter sometimes stands on it.
I started wearing it braided soon after she was born (to avoid losing her for several days at a time) and at 45 years old, I think I might have reached the age where it suits me better worn up, than loose.
Its been said already, but I agree, chin length suits the shape of your face, such as a the bob, or the photo with you and your dog sitting by the tree.

I think everyone should wear their hair just as they please, based on whatever feedback they get from others that they feel is worth considering.
Lots of men don't realize that long hair for gals isn't just long hair; it's a "long hairstyle." It requires lots more time and maintenance.
Some others, SweetPatunia, have mentioned "the shape of your face" and like cliches. Ehh, who cares. Wear your hair whatever way makes you feel good and smile more. That'll make you look good no matter what.
With that said, it's just my personal opinion, but you do look more appealing with the bangs, as in the one B&W pic on your Profile. If you were to ask me and none others, I'd say, keep it short but go with the bang cut.
PS. I voted for "Depends."

I have to say being bald for a while was really liberating, not to mention I was ready in seconds lol. I really love mine shaved now and will never have it long again, dont care what anyone thinks to be honest :)
