Nidifugous: Long story short, if a man has physical imperfections and no money, he can forget it in Tinseltown. He'll get a few dates, but chances are the women he'll get are likely to spell trouble. So what you get is a segregation of people... i.e. a guy who lives in Long beach will not get a girl from Beverly Hills and a girl from Santa Monica or Malibu won't date a guy from Compton... just not happening, you know. I think other people who lived here or know the area can confirm that.
But, is that any more of a class/financial divide than there is in other areas?
Generally, people tend to date what they know.
By that I mean, same type of upbringing, social status, etc.
Nidifugous: Oh that's so not good for a person to ask whether you own or rent, esp. in Europe. People are trying to gauge whether they'll end up with some financial responsibility for their potential partner. Geez...
You know I saw a Lamborghini in my building's parking garage today. Some days I see Ferraris and Porsches parked in there and I wonder who owns these darn things... I say this to point out what the competition here is. A young guy starting out has no chance against that kind of money, you know.
It's a thinking I don't get Nidi.
I was never impressed by a car, not even when I was around 20. They probably would be looking for a flashier model anyway and that's nothing I would have a problem with.
Most people in Ireland buy instead of rent, so it's more a sign of not being badly off than having to share responsibility. It says something about someone's character and would be a sign for me to hit the road running.

Let me be brutally honest here. Actually, women do need to be "crazy" to put up with us men and raise our family. So, ladies, don't worry! Us men will luv ya "crazy" women..

I took a pix of the Lamborghini today and I'm posting it in the blog.
Buying makes financial sense most of the time, but when it comes to sharing responsibility, neither ownership nor a rental contract are indicators, you know. People really do operate on the basis of strange logic. If someone thinks it is, then you're better off running because the person isn't the brightest light in the lampshop.

I'm curious, what blog, and what model and year of Lambo? I don't care about the person that owns it, I'm just into cars. Have been since I was 9, long before I knew anything about social status or even cared, and I still don't.
I've thought about a few things since I read this thread after I posted last, and I must say, I'm glad I live in Canada, and a rural part at that. I'll say no more, lest I offend someone with higher social aspirations.

Hi Nidi, saw the Lamborghini and even if it's a nice car, it wouldn't be enough for me to want to necessarily see the owner naked.
I do get your point about sharing responsibilities, but I don't think that this is what it's about. It's an indication about the financial capabilities of someone and if this person is a "good catch." The guy asking me was over 10 years younger I think, so someone his age having their own house would be impressive enough. He mightn't have been the brightest bulb, but he was a damn hot one. I have heard from a guy that he gets the question if he owns his house a number of times before.

Nidifugous: This is a for fun poll!
My son (26) and I are driving and talking. He says to me: All women are crazy. So I gave him the evil eye and said: "Hey, you forget who you're talking to." He looks back at me and says: "Yeah?! .. you too!"
So who's crazier? Men or women? Got some stories to share?
Yeh, if we,re talking about emotionally crazy/mad then it's more a women thing whereas the man crazy is probably more dangerous and harms others. Goddam I had some head scratching times with my ex. Raging anger n plate throwing followed by tears and remorse! Loved her anyway!

You'd have a field day here. Look at my blog. The sun was a bit too bright and I have to be careful photographing other peoples' stuff, so it's not the clearest shot and I really know nothing about the vehicle except that it wasn't cheap.
I don't get it either why people think a car is such a big deal. It's losing money every day, unless you keep it in the garage for 50 years and then try to resell it as an antique.
I'll try to take another picture later today and post it in the blog if it interests you.

raphael119: If you love racing a lambo makes sense but I would feel idiotic on the street with one.
Exactly. We were laughing this weekend because there was a Bentley on the road next to us. Behind the wheel a woman who was no older than 20 yapping on the cell phone ... and you know good and well that that car either belongs to the parents or she's a really hard working girl, you know.

Hi KN,
Well, hotness goes a long way and in some cases, the long way can lead to nice gifts from appreciative people who can afford to give them
I do agree with you that that sort of question probably comes from the female corner more so than from the male corner. There's also a cultural issue. Most people in Germany rent, most in the US own. Of course the prices in Germany and tenant laws protect renters to a degree that wouldn't be possible here. I suppose on some level I can see the rationale behind asking (male or female), but if a person owns a wonderful house, yet it mortgaged up to their ears, what does that tell you?
I just remembered talking to a guy in Germany once. Also a hottie.. marketing guy He asked hypothetically whether I'd move in to his fantastic place. I replied that I assume he means that I'd pay him rent and the answer would be no because I'm not financing his mortgage without ownership privileges and the burden of having to move if things went sour... all hypothetically, of course .. needless to say, that ended the deal
