What do you think about organic food? There is alot in the media and around talking about the health benefits of organic food. That unhealthy diet of processed foods are killing us. Do you believe that? Do you think it cost too much for organic? Should the government do something more about this problem? etc have you say. If you have anything to add please feel free bring another valid point to the discussion.

I know that the typical shopping basket of organic food is more damaging, albeit only slightly, to the environment than the basket filled with conventional foods. The idea that buying organic is green is a corporate lie aimed at a certain type of well-intentioned consumer. (Urban farming is another one of these feelgood ideas which turns out to be not very green at all for similar reasons).
I also know that organic tests positive for E.coli at a rate of about 10%, and the conventional tests positive at around 2%. Nutritionally there is no difference between conventional and organic although the former has higher traces of pesticides. The choice is between conventional pesticide and organic E.coli.
My advice is to buy your meats from abattoirs and farmer's markets, use local grocers as much as possible, and to eat less and do more.
I wonder if the e coli can be scrubbed away? the produce soaked in salt water or rinsed in vinegar? I have been eating organic food for several years now. I noticed changes in my health within weeks. My brain fog went away. I felt 20 years younger. The nerve damage in my arms dissipated. The stiffness in my legs was the last to go, within 6 months. My skin has a healthy sheen and my eyes shine. Going healthy with my food has been 100% worth it, and I know first hand how conventional food is killing you slowly. Those of you who are not brave enough to go organic are sicker and are paying more for doctors' visits and prescriptions. I'm 53 and other than some allergies to dust/pollen, am perfectly healthy and not on any medications except occasional use of Flonase nasal spray for my allergies. And I don't trust conventional doctors for most conditions--I go alternative for my health first.

... and organic food taste better. I was surprised at the difference in taste. I eat a lot of fresh fruits so I know. and the skin issue - I have seen it in others too, who eat organic food. I will look into this e-coli business, first time I ever heard of this issue.

E.Coli and Pesticide Mmmm sounds tasty not much of a choice there. seems we are caught between two evils
Farmers markets and local grocers sounds good advice On my way there
Organic food is more expensive...yes the local market does organic and other and because they are local produce alot better quality ,I can't afford to buy all organic and the ones in supermarket are sometimes in a mouldy mess,I buy my veg local and just scrub them very well, carrots are boiled are steamed anyway so there fine, vitamin a beta carotene is in carrots and it is not destroyed with heat, vitamin c and iron in broccoli should only be steamed a short while as vitamin c is destroyed if left to cook for too long few minites will do it,I don't boil my water for veg I steam as to try keep the nutrients,my nanna used to drink cabbage water she had brilliant skin up till she died at 77"
I paid 25 euro for a glass blender in lidals,I love making the smoothies,my daughter and son love them,I make the banana one in morning with local honey,I add some milk and juice ,natural yogurt,...put any fruits you like,I've cut down on the milk I just add a bit cos it goes right to my tummy,::roll: but I've more energy so I burn it off quicker,I'm so glad I gave up the ciggies 4 months ago,

I heard with none organic food anyways that if you soak in vinegar for 20mins that it helps remove some of the pesticides> Not sure if it would help with organic but i'd say it can't hurt.
The organic chickens are far tastier than the those poor chickens that had a miserable life that are jam packed on shelves in supermarkets....it is more expensive but they don't go to nothing when cooked, and so value for money, meat and fish are expensive and person that does shopping for family had to shop around for value, organic may not always be the option when minding the purse strings, Just wash fruit and veg very well, someone told me Milton is good solution to wash fruit and veg I but I just scrub them well then veg is streamed,...

I belong to a farm cooperative, and it is all organic. My dividend is a good lot of fresh vegetables and fruit delivered to my door about once weekly in late Spring through early Fall. It's a good deal. Now, I do believe there is quite a bit of 'hype' about organic, and organics are usually over-priced. (Most farmers could sell nice looking stock that is well presented and market it as organic, and few would know. There is an absence of that bitter taste; organic is often noticeably sweeter in taste, or at least more earthy/wild in flavor). But as far as any legislation, pink scum hamburger is still readily available, and one can "see" this in the market, so my advice is buyer beware. JMO

25 euro? You've been had. I blew mine up last week and bought a new one for a cheeky tenner.
I have: Banana Cottage Cheese Cup of Strawberries Cup of Frozen berries Kiwi Milk Olive Oil Peanut Butter Porridge Oats Spinach Whey Protein
And it tastes absolutely disgusting, but worth it until I find a girlfriend willing to live with and cook for me.

This is so true of organic apples. I recently discovered. I too have my organic fresh fruits and veggies delivered to me once a week from a local farm.

You are hitting on a few points.
Processed foods are usually more unhealthy than home cooked. Read the labels, I buy locally, then nationally or EU and buy food that's in season! Other countries have different regulations regarding the use of hormones, medication and traceability etc, that's why I don't buy meat outside from the EU and in general avoid all food which is transported over long distances.
Talk to a nutritionist, extensive raised meat like beef or sheep is fine conventional, I was told to buy chicken etc. organic - which I rarely do because it is expensive. Some veg are not that much more expensive when you buy them organic.
I think the type of diet you eat probably has more impact on your health than the simple fact that you exchange some things through organic products. Anyone worried about health implications through the diet you eat, to talk to a good nutritionist might give people a good idea what to change to have a more healthy diet.
Organic foods are what you grow in your back yard. Most supermarkets make you believe they are organic, but where's their proof. Remember with mass production pesticides must be used. I personally don't buy organic foods in supermarket. I grow what I eat.

I agree with you, Zim. I think it's a racket. To me, it's truly organic if I've grown it myself
