Maliq, as a fellow South African, sorry to tell you but Cape Town and SA is really not that important in the grand scheme of things. There are many MANY other places that attract more tourism than SA does.

I bet they all close their eyes when they leave Cape Town airport. You will never see the shanty towns, i.e.informal settlements featured in the tourist brochures.

Capetown is beautiful! And of course it attracts a lot of tourists (look at the rate of exchange!) Not only tourists but people wanting to invest, there are more internationals in C.T than locals.. It is built around tourism..any wild beautiful piece of land is bought and a huge hotel or fancy house shoved on it..That's why there is "the very rich" or the "very poor" no happy medium..if anyone wants to see the "real" Africa, don't stay in a fancy Hotel.. Back pack around, see the different cultures, the scener, and big open spaces..there is a beauty here that is wild, untamed and cannot be matched

It's just such a cosmopolitan place, the Rainbow Nation at its best - notwithstanding the crime, it really is very vibrant and people live their lives, enjoying the countryside and all it has to offer. The Waterfront in CT is a great hub for socialising, the weather means you are out more, and generally feel great all round.
Beautiful country, I lived there for 27 years and miss it still. Would I go back to electric fencing, armed response units, living in panic? No. But I miss what I used to know.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I get very homesick at times. The Cape is magnificent
