We call our rugby...football here and soccer is, well, soccer.....but then we are rugby mad us lot!
Back to the OP's question:
We have an anti-smacking law in this country. The day it was passed in parliament the fly swat got thrown out(I used it more as a threat than anything else). The law is not taken to the extreme, that is....if for example a child is smacked on the hand or legs for safety reasons, this is considered reasonable and is not breaking the law. Hidings and thrashings would be considered illegal.
After some reservations with it initially, particularly on how it was to be monitored....I am now in full agreement with it. I don't believe physical punishment on a child is necessary. There are other ways to deal with poor behaviour.
I have no children but it is not in my persona to beat children or animals. I just do not rely on physical violence when there are many ways to be a good parent and a partner without that type of behavior.
2girlsnocup: I have no children. When I was a child, if I was naughty enough to warrant a smack, I got one. I usually deserved it, and it taught me not to do whatever it was I did again, or at least, not get caught. I've not grown into a violent psychopath, animal torturer or have murderous fits of rage. In fact, I'm quite well balanced and totally understood why I got the smacks when I did.
I love my children, I respect them. I have not ever been disappointed or had a reason to not believe, trust them. All my children, their scores are off the charts. They have flourished health wise, socially, in Education, are athletes, artists. Super cool, talented, Gorgeous. I know I did something right. Pretty much twenty four hours daily, year in , year out. They matter more then myself. In turn they shall go on to care for others, more then, their own selves, Making a cycle of LOVE. Pretty Cool , I started out with the Freudian method, letting them be. I guided, taught, read to them. Backed up their interests, hobbies. I love them, we have a situation, which is different then most. I am blessed and am so happy I have children who love, do as they say. Can be trusted, Know manners, use them, know etiquette, continue to prosper, work, learn. We spent many hours laughing, dancing, singing, being in productions, plays, productions, lots of inside jokes. Lots of time apart. Lots of time together. Music is a huge part of our lives. Humor is a way we live. Laughter is our aerobics, every morning. PEACE HH
