jessejess47: well the results of the poll seem to show that most agree with the tax on the cigs. ,but the only posts (I only read the first and last page tho)seem to think it is unfair so I would say that they are smokers, well I was one and stopped a few years back and well if the high prices no not make you stop maybe it will at least get you to think about stopping, if you think it is unfair then show them who is the boss and teach them they can't control you in this way and stop smoking that will teach them....
Sure Point out that I forgot to answer the question. Yes I was against the first time they taxed it and every time they have added to them including this time. Really instead I think that anyone in congress that votes to tax us on anything (like cigarettes and soda) shouild should have there pay taxed as well. The vote doesnt have to pass, just voted.

It won't teach them anything. If they lose tax revenue from smokers, what do you think they're going to do?
I cannot believe that people don't understand that if they support high cig prices and non-smoking, they're shooting themselves in the foot...
I see in the grocery store here that it's now up to $60 per carton and around $6.00 a pack. As to is it fair to target 1 group to support Obummers Health care for children, Nope I don't think it's fair at all.

jlw45: what really gets me is...the tobacco companys went to court and lost concerning them putting additives in there cigs....the courts made them pay out some bucks but, nobody said anything about them doing away with the additives...now they've put another additive in them to put them out when they are sitting in the ash tray...the tobacco companys say it's for safty reasons... ....what gets me even more is, i still smoke while knowing all this....I HAVE GOT TO GET OFF THESE F%CKING CIGGS....even as i write that, i'm thinking of lighting one up ....
The cigarette companies are not doing this because they want to. Certain states are making this a requirement. I found this to be true in NH while it's not done for NC To tell if you are buying fire safe cigarettes, look at the barcode on the pack. Nearby you will see the letters FSC
i think that if we do away with tobacco companies we would easily be able to do away with this economical situation we are currently in and tobacco addiction is only in the persons head.
i know because i started smoking when i was 12 years old and i smoked all the way until i was 18. then i was smoke free for three years before i started back up again because of boredom and stress.
now i've been absolutely smoke free for over a year without the slightest craving because i've learned to channel my stress away from smoking and i don't feel the need or the want to ever pick up another cigarette.
some say too soon to make such judgement but i guess only time will tell on that one huh?

The price increase has pretty much made me decide to quit smoking cigarettes.
I'm almost in the backyard of Phillip Morris here in Concord NC. They had plans on shutting this plant down next year and move everything to Raleigh but due to the tax increases, they are thinking of shutting down this July. This is going to hurt the economy here

RaeRose: There just seems to be something illegal about taxing cigarettes so much. Alcohol causes health, economic, emotional, and traffic problems and they haven't done a thing to add tax on to that for a really long time. Maybe because the people voting for the tax drink?
Very well said!!!!!!!!!! I totally agree, I live In a Country were Cigs cost, 2 US dollars a Pack of 20!!!!! Booze is cheap...and is sold to Minors, under the leg...AWFUL!!!!!
josuec85: i think smoking is overrated and underestimated.

tattooed3177: dont see why they wont raise the price of beer , that kills people also . isnt much different then tobacco
In Minnesota, the Democrat controlled Legislature wants to raise the cigarette tax again by .54 to 1.00 a pack and the alcohol tax. They also want to do a blanket increase of our income tax and do away with most deductions. So, it's starting. They know they can only go to the smoker well just so many times before it will start to dry up.
For those who don't have a problem with raising cigarette taxes, hide your checkbooks...your next.

It's the ones behind cigarette taxes and bans, Democrats and anti-smoking propagandists saying don't mess with my habit.
loyal123: I beleive is is taking advantage of a class of consumers. It is too much of an increase. Why dont they make it illegal if they are trying to get people to quit? They dont have to worry, because "we" the tax payers buy "their" tobbaco!
As a lower middleclass person that smokes, I don't feel as though I am being taken advantage of because of my class. The rich are just as welcome to smoking as the poor. The poor are also welcomed to the same basic education about the harms of smoking as are the rich.
I think it is very fair for the simple fact of the healthcare that gov't has to pay because of smoking related health problems.
Personally I think it is more than fair that smokers pay a little more. Do I enjoy paying it? No. Have I gone without smokes because of the increase? Yes, a few times. Do I mind? Only when I'm without them..lol..Has this encouraged me to stop smoking? I've been thinking about it as of late, but have no plans to.
In essance, I think it's the least smokers could do is pay a little towards the healthcare that the gov't pays for alot of the times due to smoking.
Hugz_n_Kissez: Because it's not about health that's why...It's allllllll the money...they know people who are addicted will buy them anyway....
Hell HUGZ I agree with you.... NO laws that pass have anything to do with safty...... they put that spin on it to sell it to the public... for instance... SEAT BELTS... Are supposed to protect kids, but every school bus and city bus that I have ever riddin on never had any....WHY? because the can't make profits from ticketing you and me, if they(government) are spending the money on seat belts, if you look at who actually pays for safty stuff, it is the (private businsses) car manufactures or whatever depending on the product....and then the citizens are taxed for non compliance...The government Through the states have to pay for they want in each state, and since there is only so much revenue to go around, they will ALWAYS pick their pet projects over the welfare of your children..period.. I'm not even going to get started on the CIGS. debate, I will blow a gasket....lol

Sorry, but this is the same state that voted in Al Franken.
Da10th: I say raise the tax on alcohol as well then.
It is not so much about the tax (which was crazy)as it is the real reason for the tax, they won't outlaw tobbaco or alcohol because there is too much revenue in it for themselves and they love the contributions from the tobbaco companies, hell they work together, example, can't remember who is was, but some woman Senator is fighting really hard to ban that new e-cigarette, claiming they ought to act now and outlaw it, she says that it is worse then regular cigarettes.... then a couple days later we find out that about 3/4 of her election champaign money came from none other then tobbaco companies and their lobbiest... Everything they SAY is a joke, they are all wolves in sheep's clothing.. JMO...
