alexey8: He is not even CLOSE to a socialist.
And there are many good aspects to socialism anyway

LOL! Yeah, until you run out of everyone elses money!

I'm sure when the rest of the country has to bail out California, socialism will look pretty darn good from the west coast....

Right, when the rest of the country has to bail out California... roll eyes

laugh California might be in a large budget crisis, but still has a bigger economy then the rest of the states. hmmm

I don't know why so many Americans are scared of Socialism. There are many aspects that can work very well, as seen throughout Europe. Not every aspect of Socialism needs to be applied, but I think some Socialist ideas would benefit the US

Yes, so the rest of us will pay a much larger share for Cali's budget problems than we would have for our own states. Not because we all created the problems, but because Californians keep adopting liberal policies that have run their state into the ground. Thanks, I'd LOOOOVE to donate some of my paycheck for THAT! My kids didn't need it anyways...

Americans know that when the government touches something it goes to hell. Fannie, Freddie, Amtrak, Postal Service, Social Security, Medicaid. Sounds like a good plan to put health care in the same group, doesn't it?

Americans in general take a certain pride in being exceptional and doing it for themselves. We don't like being stolen from (a recurring theme in socialism, fascism and communism) to the point everyone is impoverished. Equal but impoverished. Those that work harder to succeed pay MORE for those that won't. Well, everyone but the ruling class that is. Somehow liberals think that is FAIR!!?? Look at all the success of socialism around the world! Canada, UK, even Denmark, that apparent pillar of welfare society!!

But hey! Feel free to catch a plane to any socialized country of your choice and live out your dream! We sure don't want it here. wave

..... and Merry Christmas!

Exceptional? Please...we lost that a LONG time ago...when GREED became more important. Everything now is about money and making more money. CEO's are the worst. As long as they get rich, they could care less what happens to their company. Shoot, if they do a terrible job, the company gives them a giant bonus to leave. doh

At one time America did take pride, and that was when America produced its own quality products, had innovated ideas, excellent education. But, not because of greed, and bad policies from both major parties, America is falling in all of those.

Socialism is not the problem here in USA...Greed, corruption, and the lobbyist are the problem. Yes, the new Health Care bill is full of problems, but its mostly do to lobbyist. But, blame socialism, and avoid the real problems. Big business is far too powerful, they control the government...

Well, thank you...in the future I may move to Europe, who knows? Anyway, I hope things turn around in the US, because its a great country, and I would like to see it continue to be great.

Well, Merry Christmas to you too! dancingsanta dancingsanta dancingsanta gingerbread

Hot_Single_Dude: How much more in taxes you personally are going to pay you beleive? Any sugestions?

I am under the $225K figure. So I figure it will not effect me much
But the tax rate for next year have not been published. I have relatives that are above the $225K. They it will effect lot.

Suggestions for avoiding Uncle Sam's taxes? I like walking and talking out a prison walled compound.

My granddad (he ran a multi million corp in the 30-50s)...once said....it is legalized theft....regrading excessive tax rates and burdens. He is right. The power to tax is the power to destroy.

Switching topics.

Yemen. Most the media people....are not calling it a proxie war....Iran on one side with this N. Yemen Shia tribe as proxies. And the US via proxies Jordan, Yemen and Saudi on the other side. US just started using cruise missile and the new improved Predator there. So we are directly involved.

Just like President Obama to get us into another middle eastern war. Like 2 was not enough, he had to make it 3 ....maybe 4 if you count Iran a possible future. Dang GWB only got us into 2....1 he had to fight and 1 an opt war. Now I know why Obama uses this withdrawal date strategy. It allows him to start new ones.

President Obama is going for a troop surge in Afghanistan, a new war in Yemen, and a possible war with Iran. So war score right now. GWB 1 have too fight and 1 opt to fight. Obama 1/2 troop surge and 1 opt to fight in Yemen with a 1 opt on Iran.

2 to GWB and 1.5...maybe a 2.5 to Obama. Then your guy wins in war making. But right now he is a close second. This is not going to sit well with the liberal community here in the US. With the Nobel Peace Awards Committee in Europe. With 1b Muslems that he apologies to for making mistakes.

Still waiting for those 1000s of Russian troops to come to the rescue. My bet is the that the P5+1 are going to play dodge ball with this N. Yemen conflict. Just us, the Jordians, the Suadi and the Yemens are playing.

Lastly.....word on the street....if the we lose to Iran in this proxie war....we lose a lot of Presidential poker chips (creditability and prestigue) around the world. So Iran is pushing for a win.

Could go with the obvious one, Democrat dunno Or Liberal dunno

But, if you guys want to get crazy, lets go with...Dreamer, Smooth talker...

Really, I don't see any political term to give him. He is not a conservative, not a communist, not a dictator, not a king, not a socialist, not a fascist, federalist, and so on...

He really is not doing much of anything. I guess he is Liberal in the sense anything goes. But, he is not sticking really with anything. A true socialist would be providing a health care plan that helps everyone in America, that would cover the basic for everyone. As we know, this Health Care Plan will not do this.

To be honest Tom, I don't know what he is anymore. In his campaigns he goals a vision. He had a direction in which he wanted to take the country. Right or wrong, he had answers for where he wanted to take the country and what he wanted to accomplish. So far, he really hasn't done anything that he said. Even the Health Care Reform bill, is not what he talked about, but he supports it. But, its far from a Socialist bill, it doesn't even help every American...

Really, I don't see anymore which direction he wants to take the country. He just seems to being trying to make everyone happy, but he is giving no guidelines...Yeah, pass Health Care, but what happened to the substance, it seems those things aren't important anymore. Send more troops, but where is the strategy, there is none. Is just the main idea, with out substance... You classify that, I don't of any political party that fits that. dunno

Why should anyone be against this health bill..in europe we have free health i think its high time the USA had the same and though the bill does not give people this at least it is a step in the right direction..shouldnt a rich state provide for the basic needs of life better than spending money on going to war!!

Alexey, a long time rumor in Washington...is the every President since Washington has made a diary that the following office holder gets to read and review. If so during the transtition....President Obama has got the insight of every President our country has place into office. Being a secret and private diary, they cannot be used in say.....investigation of the previous administration....a breach of trust and honor. This is just one American speaking to another.

The 3 month transtition period had to give him more detailed information on how the world worked...than all the time he was in Harvard. He realized that some of his campaign advocated positions and policies would not work. But also had some so committed to that he had to press them in the first year.

For example, it is the difference between flying a flight simulator of a high performance fighter jet and sitting in its cockpit at 50K FT. In one, your tush can have as many 'do overs' as you want till you get it right. The other, your tush 'gets burned' if you don't get it right the first time. Now in office 'getting it right' likely is the mantra of the White house staff.
They strongly obligated to President Obama to get it right..But..

We like to think that in this day of internet and globalizaton, that all the facts can be determined and known on the global issues. That is not the case. Countries hold secrets. Political movements at the grass roots levels develop over night. Groups like alQeada exist because they are in the shadows of people and gov't. So 'getting it right' is tough.

JMO ...He found out it was lot more complex than first thought.
A lot more challenging than when the idea of running for the Presidency first hit. His liberal views on life, did not give ...a solid moral position to making life taking decisions. For rest assured, he does make life taking decisions.

So this first year...he had tried to please everyone...and waffled on campaign promises. A good observations on your part. My first coorespondance with him....was on the 'test of fire' that his administration was going to endure. That happens when hard reality hits your preconceptions......and those preconceptions begin to melt and fracture.

His administration is still is going thru that 'test of fire'. It has not learned to side step some battles and to fight the important ones that can be won. Have to be won. You watched his...West Point Address.....and Nobel Peace Prize Address...few campaign supporters would have thought these words could come from him. But there they are.

You also see him going to Coopenhaggen..with less than a solid agenda on Climate Control and now backing a Health Care plan that was not campaigned on. Even McCain would have made consessions on
Health Care and Climate Control. It is the compromising thing to do in Washington....as Reid says.

He still has great promise to be a great American President. Only a year of his first term is gone. He now has learned to grapple with some of the world's realities. But he has to make decisions faster.....get to the heart of the issue sooner and speak the truth on it.

I also advised him to do that.

Good advise sir! You have impressed me with your insight. A real-world view. Only the individual in that office can have the opportunity to ingest such a complete view of the miriad of simultanious goals that must be addressed.

I am an accomplished pilot. Your analogy is great. Anyone can launch any aircraft, merely keep it centered with your feet, apply full power and a slight up attitude. The aircraft will do the rest, but to land it safely...

Four hundred years ago, Miguel Cervantes described an archetypal delirious fruitcake who wanted to change the world by turning the clock back to the idealized Utopian times that never really existed. Imagine what Cervantes would write today about the futility of his satirical effort, if he were to learn that four centuries later, a whole movement would arise that emulated his loony character and elected one of their kind as the leader of the free world.

HealthyLiving: Well Dude, you will be Happy to know that the so-called Health Care Bill DID pass the Senate this morning.

But I hope you will listen and understand that this Bill has absolutely NO UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE included in it!!!!

This Bill makes it MANDATORYfor Americans to BUY Health INSURANCE!!

No part of this Bill regulates the cost of Premiums to consumers.
It guarrantees the Insurance Companies 26 Million new customers.
It leaves 24 Million Americans exempt from getting coverage of any kind. (Why? I have not figured that out yet. They didn't say.)

Senator Max Baucauss (D)Montana, Chairman of the Senate Finance Commitee, made his plea in favor of the Bill yesterday afternoon,
stating, 'We are broke, we have overspent, we can no longer borrow, they will not loan us any more money. The country is bankrupt, we will not be able to pay Social Security Benefits next month. This Bill must be passed.'

The Federal government is BROKE!!!
With the Bill passed, they will begin receiving Tax Dollars as of January 1st.

I am sorry that the Bill has left so many of you misinformed.
To sum it up, they want your MONEY, the need your MONEY and now you have to purchase INSURANCE. It is NOT FREE!!! It is NOT Universal Health Care for all!!!

Even the Democrats in favor of the Bill stated that Insurance Premiums will continue to RISE!!!

Doesn't the Government own the Insurance Companies, are part of them, since the Bailouts? I think I smell a RAT!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND ENJOY YOUR LUMP OF COAL!!

AmoroArboles: Libs, Dems, Conserves, Reps, this camp and that one, all fighting amongst each other for the little scraps that are left over after what can certainly be refered to as SOCIALISM FOR THE WEALTHY ONLY.

Vast amounts of the PUBLIC FUNDS that are extracted from workers and businesses in disproportinate ratios ARE SPENT ALL OF THE TIME!

The real question is, who benefits?

10 billion in federal subsidies, this year alone to BIG OIL! Well, certainly such a fine business needs our help, just until they get back on their feet!

The ghastly amount paid to the very same wealthy CEO's that CAUSED OUR CURRENT ECONOMIC DEPRESSION! Does anyone here really believe that those very wealthy, very few among us are suffering?

Don't even mention the Owners and Players, Millionaires ALL, who have their play-houses PAID FOR WITH PUBLIC FUNDS!!

We really merely need to stop fighting with each other, and unite against the disproportinate spending done WITH OUR MONEY!!

I have not forgotten the WARS, there are many other silly spending habits I have also failed to list, but, need I go on?

I am an independent USA-Citizen with a brain, who wants to see social justice, that is all.

Dear MoveOn member,

Tomorrow morning, the Senate will vote on its health care bill, and then House and Senate leaders and the White House will meet to negotiate the final bill.

While the House bill is quite strong, the Senate health care bill is seriously flawed. And with negotiations about to begin, we have one last chance to fight for key fixes in the final bill.

Here are five key problems with the Senate bill that must be fixed. Please check this out!
Five Critical Flaws in the Senate Health Care Bill

The Senate bill would:

#1—Deny Americans the choice of a public option. In contrast, the House bill contains a national public option, the key to real competition, greater choice, and lower costs.1

#2—Leave insurance unaffordable for some lower income and working people. Both bills require virtually all Americans to buy insurance. But even with the subsidies provided, some families could have to pay up to 20% of their income on health care expenses.2

#3—Impose dangerous restrictions on women's reproductive health care. Unfortunately, both bills do this and the House provision is worse. Both versions would be a dangerous step and neither should be in the final bill.3

#4—Tax American workers' health coverage to pay for reform. The Senate would pay for part of reform by taxing the hard-won benefits packages of some working Americans. The House, on the other hand, pays for reform with a small surcharge on only the wealthiest Americans—a far better approach.4

#5—Allow insurance companies to remain exempt from anti-trust laws. Under current law, insurance companies are actually exempt from laws designed to prevent monopolies and price-gouging. The House bill would fix this, but the Senate bill leaves it in place.5

Of course, these aren't the only problems with the bill. Most glaringly, both the Senate and House bill would leave millions uninsured,6 a far cry from the vision of universal coverage so many of us have fought for. That remains a long-term goal. But these five things need to be fixed immediately—and we need to spread the word to make sure House and Senate leadership and the White House get the message we're counting on them to craft a final bill with these key fixes. Can you spread the word? Forward this email?

Thanks for all you do.

Fellows, fellows, fellows...some of us have more to say than a
emoticon. Sometimes not more important, I do agree. But no one forces you to read a long post. Is your choice, just schrol thru it.

Consider this, how much of a thread do you have if they are 100%
emoticon and pics? Threads need some verbage. Like a good steak diner, you need some salad and potato to go with it. Yes?

Agreed Dude and self, don't always serve up the best verbage. But if was not of some interest to some taste.......take a look at the hits to the Obama threads. Some are biting into the threads.

Good threads have counter points. Opposing positions that debate the issues. A reader can chew some of right and some of left....munch on the middle. Find out where thier personal position is.

So the way I see it....Dude and self are doing a CS service to the consuming and tasteful readers as yourselves. A free political commentary service, mind you. Not one that is forced on any.

Consider how many CSers might have saved their job.....by reading a Obama thread the night before going to work....were a hostile employer is laying off half sleeping and non motivated employees. Here comes this CS informed employee to the water tank in the morning, and he / she enters into a adult and quasi intelligent discussion of the day's topic and issue from material gleamed right here on CS! The employer now impressed....keeps the axe from falling one more time that day.

So it is our small contribution (Dude and self) to the unemployment problems around the world. We are helping to keep the global economy going. Saving the planet. Exposing politicians to harsh internet criticism. Bring forth real valued opinion and commentary on small and meaningless political topics and issues.))

They are plenty of places on the net to blog and post fellows. I like CS because of its international flavor. But if considered an intrusion to your emoticon displays, I will gladly move on.

FYI....A DELTA flight from Amsterdam to Detroit just had a terror attack. Using a smuggle device thru the security sensor, a 23 yo
Nigerian detonated the device on the aircraft as it let down to Detriot. Passengers were able to detain the man and put out the small fire. All are safe, except for the attacker that suffer 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

US Homeland Security says that the man was connected to alQaida.
That he was trained in Yemen. Yemen, a topic of interest earlier in the thread post by this blogge.......

That is why I came online on Christmas to post.

Merry Christmas All..............

We likely will not see these improvement until after 2015, when the benefits of this health care reform take effect. Who are they kidding? They know from the accurial data sheets, that America is greying at a faster rate. In the next 5 years, many of the medicare aged will pass away even before this bill enacted.
They have stolen the medicade that these elderly need to live dignified and medically secure futures. Stolen it for? In a single biggest wealth redistribution in the history of mankind.......not for insuring 30m uninsured.......but only 12m of them.

We will not see any medical benefits from this bill in our (of a mature 60+ yo) life time. Only longer lines at the Dr. offices. Hospitals that cannot provide medical services to regulation and agency red tape. And uncontrolled costs from medical mal practice insurance, from trivial litigation, and other porked earmarks that the bill fails in.

Let us assume that the full effect of the improvement will be seen after 2015... and what is wrong with this exactly TT? You talk as if America is "in the state of no birth no more" and as if it is end of time and there will not be more americans no more who will enjoy the benefits if living in poor conditions and not able to cover the expences of americans health care coverage as it is.

There is a lot other stuff being worried a bout than you and your generation alone TT... but still why do you think the most important is the generation you personally belong to ?

When the current medicade was suggested and became reality what did oponents say back then? There have not been any major change of the american health care coverege since 1912 and then later in the 60,s!

Oak... you are conservative but still is it not too much asking for no change after so many freaking years hanging on the almost same and not thinking a bout the world have changed and people are allowed to receive informations from each and every corners of the entire planet and then many americans demanding more equality and at least being able to feel secure as possible when ill?

Your guys have been able to make so much anti health care reforms in America by fear campains and specially talking a bout how horribly worng it goes in countries with universal health care paid from taxes and you have abused lack of real interest from many americans in the past regarding how life is in other countries than America...

Time have changed TT! People travelling and living in other countries now on days... not every body comes to your country to live and many americans travelling in the opposit direction as well and the net have melted us all and we can talk and exchange ideas and then your guys can not possibly with holding the flow of information and many americans know very well that most of the fear compains of your guys are lies and deception and fear mongering campains and just to get a politichal momentum and not much else!

What a bout a litte wealth redistribution? What is wrong with that exactly? The right of the fat and too rich oh lala... they cant consume as much russian caviar as they used to ... such a true disaster for the whole humanity doh

Your country men are dying each and every single year because of treatable illnesses and you are talking a bout wealth redistribution?

Did the founding fathers of America really truely thoguht as you do TT?

I am sure not all of them thought this way and many of them would feel honored to help their own countrymen to have a better life by giving a way some of their personal wealth. Are there diferent versions regarding american history or what ?

alexey8: Exceptional? Please...we lost that a LONG time ago...when GREED became more important. Everything now is about money and making more money. CEO's are the worst. As long as they get rich, they could care less what happens to their company. Shoot, if they do a terrible job, the company gives them a giant bonus to leave.

Great post in deed! Well shorlty defined too many americans have no idea the meaning of living in a capitalist system but still accepting some good parts of socialism to create a more equal society where the wealth is more equaly shared and the inhabitants have to accept that more equality creates more safty. Social democracy is not any thing like the ideas of Stalin or some thing like that but a great idea founded in Sweden and then copied in Denmark and in canada and else where. Europe is great to live in... if you wanted to try just go for it and dont hesitate!

I am sure America will stay as a great country to live in as well and I am sure feauter of America is bright and gud knows americans are so impatience and used to things have to get done fast laugh ... but still many americans will be postively surprised in the next two-three years I am certain.

ttom500: I am under the $225K figure.

Thank you for your reply TT. I am not totaly agree with your grand dad with all respect.
America is very serious regarding activities of Alqueda all over the middle east and as you know those terrorists who attacked all of us on 9/11 were from Yemen and from Saudi arabia so if the search is going to conclude Yemen as well then fine with me and a bout time thumbs up
Iranian regim is getting more and more desperate now on days before they will fail soon and wanting to use any means possible to keep staying on power... I am not sure them have given refuge to Bin ladens family is going ot help them keeping their bloody power any way. Bin Laden have a huge family and they are in many countries and the amount of money behong this particular family is huge... there is a real need to stop this flow of money in a very serious way.
