EriK_tg: And preserved the righteous. The rest of us are descended from them, and we've heard the story. Some have listened, others haven't.

so Noah and the few others on the ark were the only righteous people?? out of all the people on earth?? again I say, if 'god' created all the others, and NONE of them were good, then surely he wasn't much of a parent/creator??

EriK_tg: But how would the people learn from their mistakes? If He wiped the slate clean, there'd be no evidence. .

OK....let me throw ya one smarty.

IF this crazy flood happened to wipe out evidence it FAILED.

We do indeed have evidence of pre Adamite(based on the simple counting backwards using supposed ages in Genesis) life......dinos and homonids that clearly ARE NOT the same as we(homo sapiens) are. There are even plant types that would not have survived so He woulda had to fix that problem as well as the fact that the seas salinity changes come into question.

Either god couldn't do a flood right or it's a myth.

Because science trumps ALL....when you show me a faith w/ crap science it is false....on the points in question anyway.

My beliefs fit 100% with science ...except where (maybe) god decided to alter physics (a miracle) or something happened and we just don't YET understand the science of how.

Well, it sounds like you've got a lot of presuppositions about what can and can't happen, despite not being all-knowing.

You can believe that if you want, but if you find yourself open to seeking the answers to your questions, Answers in Genesis has excellent resources under their "Get Answers" tab.

I've chatted w/ people who VERY LIKELY have MUCH MORE knowledge of scripture than you and they too had weak defenses.

Do read about criticism of Empiricism.

You have to have presuppositions. Just because I have a different starting point doesn't automatically make me wrong. I certainly use the scientific method, historical exegesis, and inductive/deductive logic where each is appropriate.

An argument should be analyzed on its own merit, not the credentials of the person presenting the argument.

Let's see....geology, physics and anthropology for a start.

If you are just going to say "God can do anything - so science doesn't matter" then I'll let you have your fantasies and and no longer address you directly.

While I myself do beleive in a god and creation I also believe it follows a design - that we study - we call the study science.

If you want to step halfway to something sensable like saying "We do not yet understand how god did such things, but we will endeavour to learn w/o jumping to fantasy." then we're onhandshake

I have read this "Mr Scientific OP"'s profile..roll eyes
And MY suggestions are:
If you expect:
facts,
scientific analysis,
true explanations..
or ANYthing other then.. "the Bible tells me so"..
DON'T bother the OP with your petty discrepancies to
ANY of his claims..
This boy knows his arks..crazy
and he is going to float on his no matter what
any of us try to reason with him about.....

You hit the nail(or 3 if you need 'em)on the head. The science needed to make the flood a reality do not exist....thus the story is more likely at fault.

Careful while you're hurling those elephants.

God can do anything in the sense that He has unrestrained creative/transmutive/locomotive/destructive power over all matter and energy. This is what is generally considered when people say God is "omnipotent." Omnipotence does not allow you to behave counter to logic. God doesn't contradict Himself (because He is unchanging), so that means that He can't violate principles of logic such as the Law of Non-Contradiction.

Science used to be defined as "knowledge," since it means literally con=with science=knowledge, and science is definitely one way to learn from and understand God through His creation. I would never say science doesn't matter. I will say that observational science is limited, however, so that the scientific method cannot give us the final say on what happened in the past. More is needed.

There are many things we don't understand, but we know that God validated the Bible as it existed in c. 30 AD (and we retain copies from that period) via Jesus' affirmation of the inerrancy and authority of Scripture, so thus anything the Bible says about what happened in the past must be true. The key is to understand what it is that He in fact said, and then to use science to fully understand the evidence. The Bible is our starting-point for understanding the world. Man's fallible ideas always get it wrong in one way or another. God's Word is the only Ultimate standard.

I don't understand what you're saying here. It sounds like you're regarding 'science' as some kind of force of nature that would be a direct cause of the Flood.

That doesn't make sense. Can you explain?
