jampet: I would like to think that any parent that had 300m children , and 299m of them were burglarising, terror spree/assaulting types,... would be for eternity be prevented from ever having any more children, since they obviously have zero parenting skills and extremely bad genes., rather than being allowed to murder all their children and start again!!so that argument is not only ridiculous but sooo childish, and since I only choose to have intelligent discussions with adults, I bid you goodnight

EriK_tg: Careful while you're hurling those elephants.

God can do anything in the sense that He has unrestrained creative/transmutive/locomotive/destructive power over all matter and energy. This is what is generally considered when people say God is "omnipotent." Omnipotence does not allow you to behave counter to logic. God doesn't contradict Himself (because He is unchanging), so that means that He can't violate principles of logic such as the Law of Non-Contradiction.

Science used to be defined as "knowledge," since it means literally con=with science=knowledge, and science is definitely one way to learn from and understand God through His creation. I would never say science doesn't matter. I will say that observational science is limited, however, so that the scientific method cannot give us the final say on what happened in the past. More is needed. There are many things we don't understand, but we know that God validated the Bible as it existed in c. 30 AD (and we retain copies from that period) via Jesus' affirmation of the inerrancy and authority of Scripture, so thus anything the Bible says about what happened in the past must be true. The key is to understand what it is that He in fact said, and then to use science to fully understand the evidence. The Bible is our starting-point for understanding the world. Man's fallible ideas always get it wrong in one way or another. God's Word is the only Ultimate standard.
Yes, and who shall we believe is truly inspired then, my friend? Even established churches don't agree with doctrine. Where is the harmony in that? In fact, ministers will jokingly talk of another denomination, as if to imply that their patience with those "errant ones" will suffice to win them to Glory. Yeah, that's love, all right. The truth is that none of us will ever, in this life, be able to sort it all out, and even if we could, I say the miracle is that it is a different experience for each of us; and trying to put an umbrella policy on what we say God's relationship with another person is, is extremely and erroneously presumptuous. Have you ever heard of Epicurus? He wrote of human kind's journey of a zest for understanding. God is just fine with our desire and need to find reason and purpose in the world and universe, and to question Him. Look, He put brain cells in us, didn't He? Do you think He was just playing Tiddly Winks? Just bored, was He? Read Epicurus--I'll get you started:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then He is not omnipotent.
Is He able, but not willing?
Then He is malevolent.
Is He both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is He neither able or willing?
Then why call Him God?

get it?

"EriK_tg: I see where your problem is.

You think a flood that covers the whole earth would for some reason NOT erode everything on the surface and redeposit it elsewhere. Would you like an explanation of why floods are catastrophic and not tranquil?"

I suppose that you expect me to take what you said above to mean that you honestly think that a world-wide flood could leave absolutely no geologic evidence? How unscientific of you.

What part of my response to her was poor behavior? I simply restated what she said. I asked her if science was a physical being and she did not deny it, but insisted that I was wrong (and since I was saying that science is immaterial, then that by exclusion means she thinks it is material).

I simply did reductio ad absurdum on her comments. If it looked ridiculous, it's because her comments were.

I have read this thread...you are behaving as if you are beyond anyone else's opinion. Which is why you are receiving the response you are.
If you can not accept others opinions then this discussion is worthless.

He is willing and able. Have you read the parable of the weeds?

************
The Parable of the Weeds

24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”
********

Hopefully you don't need an explanation for the symbolism.

Makes you wonder if he believes he actually is better than everyone else. It's a common thing with born again Christians, to believe that they possess the "truth" to everything in the universe. roll eyes

I've seen this all before, innumerous times, here and offline as well, and it's always the same old arguements, and avoidance of actually answering direct questions with direct answers.

Then the belittling and ridicule begins, all because they can't have their way, and convince you that they do indeed know what they're talking about. Snide comments, back handed insults, and then in the end, name calling.

Whatever, just another mindless drone on a computer, it's when they show up at your front door that you have to worry. some of them really do believe all the crap they spew. uh oh

Question:
1. You do realize that from the Biblical perspective, if we got to live without God, as we told Him we wanted, we wouldn't exist at all?
2. Living at all is therefore a gift from God. When you die, you're just getting what you deserve.

These are things to think about.
