SoldierByte, I apologize for hurting your feelings with the comment about you being ignorant--I simply meant that you don't know who I am (regardless of how well you can or can't illegally hack personal information, which you have been threatening to do). After all, you can't hack into my brain.
Sorry, but all I meant was that you don't know my personal history. I hope you'll forgive me for any additional grievance that my remark may have caused you.
I have no intention of "being tough" with you. I hope you can accept my apology.
"If you are an 'omnipotent' being, as the bible suggests god is, then surely there should be some accountability for the actions of your 'flock'??"
jampet: still waiting
Why? He gave us free will. That means that we're accountable for what we do. Blaming Him for what we do makes no sense. Your children hopefully don't blame you for the times when they disrespect your authority, do they? (I'm assuming you have kids for the sake of argument--I haven't looked at your profile)
EriK_tg: Um, we are debating about the God of the Bible, correct? So to know what The God of the Bible thinks about something, it is appropriate to look in the Bible.
How does this not make sense?
We are not debating the bible itself (which is fun) nr god (as I personally believe)but the flood being real or not based on the intial topic of the ark.
You used the bible to "prove" a point and I simply wanted to say that this is not the way to go because you can't assume that the others hold it as valid ....and if they did.....Catch 22.

I do accept.. although I do apologize for OVER-reacting.. I do not FOR reacting.. it is what I do.. and I leave your thread with no ill feelings.. we all make mistakes.. I was young once too.. good luck.. and May the God of your choice smile upon you and yours.. ( your stuff is safe ) ---SB---
EriK_tg: Feel free to give me a direct question anytime you're ready.Speaking of belittling, here is what was in just your post: Please don't impose a double standard on me. Rest assured, I won't call names, but I will point out when you say something stupid. Like now.
I'm not imposing a thing, just making an observation, and if you care to read your own posts, you'll see what I mean.
No questions, I already know your answers before you even bother to type them out, already heard it all before, many times. You're not the first one to rattle off the standard arguements in the way you do.
You do seem to better programmed than a lot of them though, almost like a computer.

Not so much to prove a point as to show what God has to say about something (which is kinda the point when someone asks why God would do something).
Do you not believe the Bible? If you do, then I can legitimately use it to try to convince you of something.

I actually feel hes a good lad, and only frustrated at trying to put his point across to us. This is where many religious fail....because it is deemed as preaching, and if we are unable to follow we are ignorant to it.
I admire him for standing up for his believes..but wish he wouldnt frown on others that do not follow it.xxx

I'm sure not trying to do that ("frown..."). Sorry if it came across that way at any point.
NCC1968: In a debate you have to use what is agreed on as a valid reference. Saying something is in the bible does not work. I read Lord of the Rings....so Mordor must be a real place
I think NCC1968's point is that the bible is a written book, as is 'the lord of the rings'.... and , until proven otherwise, there is no proven basis on which to believe something that is written in the bible, than there is to believe in the 'facts' of TLOTR. so far, from the arguments given in this thread, there is nothing to warrant one as a 'valid reference' over the other.

Again...you assume we see it as gods word...you can't do that it a real debate.
Just because you believe it does NOT mean you can use it - that is NOT how a debate works.
This is a very simple online deal, but in a serious debate the facts are first agreed upon or not a factor because the participants know better than to try somwthing like that.
If you are hired to paint a house white, but paint it black and tell them you BELIEVE it is white then you can see the problem....that's an exaggerated analogy, but clear.

I totally accept that- all i ask is for something concrete to back up a belief

I haved not taken any of his replies to me as preaching. He seems to have a hold on his faith, but not ready for some debates yet. Debates can range from simple to highly complex and if you jump in deep you may drown. I DO NOT pretend to know all that much and would watch a debate of scholars for my own edification, but NOT join - I'd drown
I'm actually hoping he will take this as a revelation that he (like us all) need to know where we and others in the debate stand.....knowledge wise I mean. What concerns me is that he may go to "leaders" and be told either that we are lost and don't know any better when we speak or that he should just sweep it under the rug and maybe even stay away from us.

Noone should fear KNOWLEDE
You cannot debate with these people. Their minds are closed and their thoughts are corrupted.

some corners to sweep out, then. Try to understand that you are appearing to be condescending to people two and three times your age. Not a good plan. Have you ever considered thinking about things yourself, without all the quotes, dogma, doctrine? (it's really O.K.- Really). The God I believe in told me it's all right to use the cognitive processes He gave me. Honest. It's OKAY. Try it. There is nothing wrong with discovery. Read "Desiderata". Relax, it was written by a Christian. It's a wonderful, powerful non-condemning piece of literature. I wonder if you have a grasp on the unconditional love of God. Assuming you do, then understand that it is either unconditional or it is not. Can't have it both ways. It is good that you earnestly search and find spiritual satisfaction at so early an age. You are very young to be so unadmiringly reluctant to listen to the counsel of the elders. You are trying to move the beach with a teaspoon!
EriK_tg: You don't think a country should defend itself if another country wants to murder everyone in that country?
Guess I know where your morals lie.
(You're running into problems because you're trying to apply a double standard to God. God is just. Spend some time trying to figure out how to justly save a remnant of humanity from hundreds of millions of people whose only epithet says, "and the earth was filled with violence from them, and every thought on their minds was only evil, continually." Maybe you'll arrive at a conclusion that makes more sense)
Good luck
But your God encouraged to murder?
Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)
And I can quote much more Bible verses about how God encourage murder..

It's called "accommodating scripture", Love. I'll write more in a few minutes--my cyber cowboy just flagged me. thx!
EriK_tg: Question: 1. You do realize that from the Biblical perspective, if we got to live without God, as we told Him we wanted, we wouldn't exist at all? 2. Living at all is therefore a gift from God. When you die, you're just getting what you deserve.
These are things to think about.
Exactly! We wouldn't! Because we killed each other ages ago..
Kill Brats
From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB)

My question is...why where the children that stupid to stick around as 2 bears killed that many of their friends?
